Un nuevo ciudadano se registra para votar

Nestor Zepeda se convirtió en ciudadano estadounidense en un día muy especial para los hispanos, el 12 de octubre del 2005 y con la ayuda de su maestra de la clase de ciudadanía, Evelyn Perry, se registró para votar.

Zepeda nació en México en 1949 y vino a Estados Unidos en 1998 con una visa de permiso para trabajo agrícola. En 1990, solicitó un cambio de visa y le fue concedida la tarjeta de residente permanente, también conocida como la "Green Card".

Después de haber vivido en Estados Unidos durante 15 años, en marzo del 2004, Zepeda se inscribió en la Clase de Ciudadanía de la Iglesia First Baptist en Gainesville, Georgia, donde Evelyn Perry fue su primera maestra. Solicitó la ciudadanía y 17 meses más tarde pasó el examen y tomo juró lealtad a Estadod Unidos el 12 de octubre del 2005.

El votar es un privilegio que tienen los ciudadanos quienes se registren para votar. El próximo año, Zepeda podrá votar en las elecciones para gobernador de Georgia y para la de 'House Representative'. Zepeda tiene pensado continuar estudiando inglés en la Iglesia First Baptist para continuar aprendiendo sobre la votación y también para comunicarse mejor en su trabajo. Trabaja para el gobierno local de la ciudad de Gainesville y es un miembro activo de una iglesia hispana.

New Citizen Registers to Vote in Gainesville

Nestor Zepeda became a United States Citizen on a special day for Hispanics, October 12, 2005 and with the assistance of his citizenship teacher, Evelyn Perry, has registered to vote.

Zepeda was born in Mexico in 1949 and came to the United States in 1988 on an Agriculture Work Permit. In 1990, he applied for an adjustment and was granted a Permanent Resident card, also known as Green Card.

After living in the United States for fifteen years, in March of 2004 he enrolled in the Citizenship Class at First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Georgia where Evelyn Perry was his first teacher. He applied for citizenship and 17 months later he passed the test and took the Oath of Allegiance on October 12, 2005.

Voting is a privilege given only to citizens who register to vote. Next year, Zepeda will be able to vote for governor of Georgia and a United States House of Representative. He plans to continue studying English at First Baptist Church so that he can learn more about voting and also to communicate better at his job. He works for the City of Gainesville and he is an active member of a Hispanic church.
