County Line Elementary

The students of County Line Elementary School in Winder, Georgia honored Hispanic Heritage Month with a week-long celebration including a variety of cultural events.

Classes enjoyed the storytelling talents of Tersi Bendiburg, a professional storyteller with Young Audiences of the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta. She shared Latin American Folktales using English and Spanish, in addition to sharing authentic traditional crafts from Mexico, Central, and South America.

Marybel Garcia, Hispanic parent liaison, worked with seven County Line students to teach them a traditional Mexican dance from the state of Veracruz. Dressed in authentic costumes, the girls performed the dance for the school. County Line students also enjoyed listening to the music of Mariachi Band Teuchitlan from Stone Mountain, Ga. during their lunch periods in the cafeteria.

Arts and crafts were made by the students and showcased in the school including: clay pottery, Mexican paper-cutting, and God's Eyes.

Culminating the week's events was a food fiesta of traditional dishes donated by Hispanic parents and Sonia's Mexican Restaurant in Winder.
