Seminario de negocios gratis en español en Athens

El Centro de Desarrollo de Pequeños negocios de la Universidad de Georgia y el Banco de la Oportunidad presentan el seminario: Cómo Empezar tu Propio Negocio.

Este programa contiene información básica sobre cómo empezar su propio negocio. Algunos de los temas a cubrir son: características de un empresario, ideas de negocio, factibilidad, estructuras legales, regulaciones y planificación. El programa es presentado en español y está dirigido a la comunidad latina interesada en comenzar o hacer crecer un negocio en Georgia.

El seminario gratis se llevará a cabo el miércoles, 6 de octubre de 6 a 8 de la noche en el Banco de la Oportunidad ubicado en 995 Hawthorne Avenue en Athens.

El curso será dado por Eduardo López, consultor para negocios hispanos del Centro de Desarrollo de Pequeños Negocios (SBDC por sus siglas en inglés). López estudió administración de empresas en México durante cinco años. Después de graduarse, se mudó a Estados Unidos y trabajó en un banco. Al poco tiempo, se dio cuenta de que había oportunidades para hispanos en algunas escuelas y universidades de Estados Unidos. Investigó y consiguió una beca en la Universidad de Texas A&M para estudiar comercio internacional.

El SBDC sirve a todo el estado de Georgia. Ayuda a personas que tienen un negocio o quieren empezar un nuevo negocio con fines de lucro. Si una persona quiere empezar un negocio, el SBDC ofrece asesoria técnica. También proporciona clases con temas de interés para personas que tienen un negocio o piensan empezar uno y ofrece consultoría personalizada. "Cuando una persona ya tiene un negocio o está pensando en crear su propio negocio, viene a nosotros y nos pide ayuda, nos comenta lo que está pensando. Tal vez ya tiene su negocio pero la persona siente que tiene problemas y por eso no ha crecido al ritmo que debería haber crecido. Nosotros tratamos de encontrar la raíz del problema y solucionarlo", dice López. Sobre su experiencia ayudando a los empresarios hispanos en Athens, López dice que aunque están en el proceso de desarrollar sus negocios, solamente es cuestión de guiarlos para que encuentren el camino adecuado.

En Georgia, López ha tenido la oportunidad de trabajar con restaurantes, tiendas de comida y empresas pequeñas de construcción y jardinería. Un ejemplo de su trabajo fue cuando ayudó a un restaurante que tenía dificultades con las ventas en horas de la noche. Analizó la situación, se concentró en el tipo de cliente que iría durante la noche y luego ayudó al dueño a crear y distribuir 10.000 folletos de publicidad para promover el restaurante.

Además, Lopez trabaja con la Cámara de Comercio de Athens y está intentando dar a conocer los servicios de la Cámara de Comercio e informar a los empresarios hispanos sobre los beneficios que pueden obtener como miembros de dicha organización. "Lo que siempre digo a las personas, incluyendo a las personas de mi propio país que me preguntan acerca de Estados Unidos, es que aquí las oportunidades siguen existiendo. Aunque haya cada vez más hispanos y más negocios, las oportunidades siempre están ahí. Es cuestión de ponerse a ver y analizar qué es lo que se necesita y si van a poner un negocio, pues que lo pongan. Es mucho más fácil tener éxito aquí que en nuestros países", López recomienda a los hispanos interesados en convertirse en empresarios.

Free Business Seminar in Spanish in Athens

The University of Georgia Small Business Development Center (SBDA) and El Banco de la Oportunidad present the free seminar: How to Start Your Own Business.

This course contains basic information on how to start a new business or expanding an ongoing one. Some of the topics covered in this course are: entrepreneurial spirit, business ideas, feasibility, legal structures, regulations, and business planning. This course is presented in Spanish and is targeted to the Latino community interested in starting and growing a business in Georgia.

The seminar will take place on Wednesday, October 12 at 6 p.m. at the El Banco de la Oportunidad located on 995 Hawthorne Avenue in Athens. The event will take two hours to complete.

The course will be given by Eduardo Lopez, Hispanic Business Consultant for the Small Business Development Center of Athens. Lopez studied business administration in Mexico for five years. After graduating, he moved to the United States and worked at a bank. After a short time, he saw that there were opportunities for Hispanics in some schools and universities in the United States. He applied for and received a scholarship at Texas A&M University and earned a Master's Degree in International Business.

In October of 2002, he was hired as the Hispanic Business Consultant for the SBDC, and moved to Athens.

The SBDC serves the entire state of Georgia. It helps everyone who has a business or who wants to start a profitable business. If someone is interested in starting a business, they can receive technical consulting. The SBDC also offers classes on different topics of interest to people who have a business or who are planning on starting one. It offers one-on-one consultations. "When someone already has a business or is thinking about starting their own business, they come to us, ask for help, and tell us about what's going on. They might already have their own business and there may be problems such the business not growing at the rate it should be growing. We try to find the root of the problem and solve it," says Lopez. About his experience helping entrepreneurs in Athens, Lopez says that they are still in the process of starting up their businesses, but that it's just a matter of guiding them to find the right path that they should follow.

In Georgia, Lopez has had the opportunity to work with restaurants, grocery stores, and small construction and landscaping businesses. An example of his work was when he helped a restaurant that had very low sales during the dinner hour. He analyzed the situation, focusing on the type of people who would come at night. He then helped the owner to create and distribute 10,000 brochures to promote the restaurant.

In addition, Lopez is working with the Athens Chamber of Commerce. Lopez is trying to make the Athens Chamber of Commerce's services known and inform Hispanic entrepreneurs of the benefits they can have as members of the Chamber of Commerce. "What I always tell people, including people from my own country who talk to me and ask me questions about the United States, is that here in the United States, opportunities continue to arise. Although there are many people, more and more Hispanics, more and more businesses, opportunities are always there. It's only a matter of taking the initiative to look and analyze what is needed. And if you're going to open a business, then open it. It's much easier to be successful here than in our own countries," says Lopez as a message to aspiring Hispanic entrepreneurs.
