Banco Familiar celebra quinto aniversario El Banco Familiar en Gainesville está de fiesta. El banco celebra cinco años trabajando y ayudando a la comunidad hispana del noreste de Georgia. Por esta razón, el banco realizará varios eventos para que sus clientes, la comunidad hispana y residentes del área en general puedan conmemorar esta importante fecha. El sábado, 29 de octubre, el Banco Familiar ofrecerá una fiesta al aire libre con música, comida y juegos para los más pequeños. El Banco Familiar fue creado gracias a la iniciativa y visión de Gainesville Bank and Trust. Esta entidad bancaria se dio cuenta de la creciente importancia y poder económico de la comunidad hispana en Gainesville, Condado de Hall y alrededores y creó una sucursal, la cual ofrece servicios totalmente en español y a la medida de las necesidades específicas de inmigrantes hispanos en Estados Unidos. Johnnie Mejia, gerente del Banco Familiar, se alegra de que Gainesville Bank and Trust haya tomado la iniciativa de crear un banco especialmente para hispanos. "No había ningún banco y los hispanos ofrecen mucho a la economía de Gainesville", explica Mejia, quien nació en Texas y se graduó en Administración y Negocios de la Universidad de Texas. "Esta región (Georgia) está creciendo mucho y se convertirá en Texas y California". Uno de los ejecutivos de Gainesville Bank and Trust, Richard Hunt, compartió la idea de crear el primer banco para hispanos en Gainesville con el resto de ejecutivos del banco y así comenzó el proyecto. Hunt incluso decidió empezar a tomar clases de español para así entender y servir mejor a la comunidad hispana. Representantes de GB&T decidieron visitar otros bancos que sirven a la comunidad hispana en Texas para aprender de ellos antes de iniciar el proyecto en Gainesville. "Estos bancos (Texas) ya tienen varios años de experiencia ofreciendo servicios totalmente en español", explica Mejia. "queríamos ver lo que estaban haciendo bien y qué cosas podíamos mejorar". El Banco Familiar cuenta con nueve empleados y los países como Guatemala, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Perú y México están representados dentro de la sucursal. Mejia tiene experiencia trabajando en el mundo bancario. Trabajó en un banco en Del Río en Texas, muy cerca de la frontera con México, durante 10 años antes de mudarse a Georgia. El Banco Familiar ofrece servicios de cuenta de ahorros, chequera, inversiones, envíos de dinero, Tax ID, entre otros. "Prestamos varios servicios, los más comunes son cuenta de ahorros y chequeras pero también hacemos cheques de pago efectivo". Uno de los servicios más cómodos que prestan al cliente hispano es el 'Depósito Directo", por medio del cual, un trabajador puede cobrar y depositar su cheque directamente en su cuenta de ahorros, ahorrándole tiempo y dinero, ya que otros negocios cobran un porcentaje del cheque por hacerlo efectivo. El banco, es su afán por contribuir a educar e informar a la comunidad, también ofrece talleres en temas como: ¿Cómo y por qué es importante construir crédito? ¿Cómo llenar un cheque? ¿Cómo obtener un préstamo? La importancia de abrir una cuenta de ahorros para cobrar cheques y así no perder dinero y ¿cómo comprar una casa? Información sobre cómo hacer los impuestos. For this reason, the bank will hold a series of events open to clients, the Hispanic community and local residents in order to commemorate this important anniversary. On Saturday October 29th, el Banco Familiar will hold an outdoor celebration complete with music, food and games for children. It is thanks to the initiative and vision of Gainesville Bank and Trust that the bank was created. It realized the growing importance and economic power of the Gainesville Hispanic community in Hall County and the surrounding areas and it created a branch that would offers services completely in Spanish and tailored to the specific needs of Hispanic immigrants in the United States. Johnnie Mejia, manager of el Banco Familiar is happy that Gainesville Bank and Trust has taken the initiative to create a bank for Hispanics. There wasn't one bank, and the Hispanic community offers a lot to the economy of Gainesville," explains Mejia who was born in Texas and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Business Administration. "This region is growing so fast that someday it will look like Texas and California." The project for the bank was started when one of the executives of Gainesville Bank and Trust, Richard Hunt, shared the idea of creating the first bank for Hispanics in Gainesville with the rest of the bank executives. Hunt decided to start taking Spanish classes so that he would be able to understand and better serve the Hispanic community. Representatives of GB&T decided to visit other banks serving the Hispanic community in Texas to learn techniques before initiating the project in Gainesville. "These banks already had many years of experience offering completely Spanish services, explains Mejia. "We wanted to see what things they were successful in so that we could improve our services. El Banco Familiar has nine employees and countries such as Guatemala, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Peru and Mexico are represented within the branch. Before moving to Georgia, Mejia had 10 years experience working in the world of banking in Del Rio Texas, a city very close to the Mexican border. El Banco Familiar offers services in savings accounts, checking, money orders, and tax ID among others. We offer many services, the most common being savings and checking accounts but we also cash checks. One of the most requested services by the Hispanic clients is direct deposit which allows workers to have their paychecks deposited straight to their savings account, saving time and money, since other businesses charge a percentage of the total check amount in order to cash it.
