Australia busca inmigrantes calificados

Australia ha lanzado una campaña para atraer unos 100.000 inmigrantes calificados. Según el gobierno de la isla del pacífico y, especialmente el Departamento de Inmigración, Australia necesita con urgencia soldadores, carpinteros, electricistas, ingenieros, contables, peluqueros, médicos, enfermeras y, sobretodo, trabajadores para las industrias de la minería y la construcción.

La campaña se está llevando a cabo en Londres (Inglaterra), Amsterdam (Holanda), Berlín (Alemania) y Chennai (India) pero personas de todo el mundo son bienvenidas a solicitar trabajo.

Australia ocupa un territorio tan grande como Estados Unidos (sin incluir Alaska y Hawai), pero tiene una población de tan sólo 20 millones de habitantes (comparado con los casi 300 millones que tiene Estados Unidos). Australia ha sido siempre un país de inmigrantes. Durante y poco después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, miles de inmigrantes europeos decidieron huir de los horrores de la guerra y comenzar una nueva vida en Australia. Es así como entre 1945 y 2000, casi seis millones de personas, motivadas también por las facilidades que el gobierno de Canberra les ofrecía, decidieron emigrar a la tierra de los canguros y los koalas. Australia estaba buscando activamente capital humano bajo la política conocida como "Poblar o morir", la cual ayudó al país a duplicar su población durante esos años.

Con un nivel de desempleo por debajo del 5 por ciento y con un nivel de vida que no tiene nada que envidiar a países de la Comunidad Económica Europea, Estados Unidos, Canadá y Japón, Australia es un destino muy atractivo para aquellos inmigrantes que estén buscando mejorar su situación económica y ofrecer un mejor futuro para sus hijos. Es más, muchas compañías australianas están buscando activamente mano de obra para cubrir la demanda de trabajo y están colaborando enérgicamente con el gobierno para atraer a empleados calificados. Durante la campaña de aceptación, los interesados en obtener un trabajo en Australia, se reunirán con representantes del gobierno y de las mismas compañías.

El año pasado llegaron a Australia 80.000 trabajadores profesionales pero la continua demanda de empleos y el envejecimiento de la población han llevado al gobierno a lanzar esta nueva campaña.

En una encuesta reciente realizada por la consultora "Global Market Insite. Nation Brand Index", Australia fue elegida como el país más atractivo para vivir y realizar negocios de entre una lista de 25 países. Las personas encuestadas (10.000 personas en 10 países, incluido Estados Unidos pero no Australia) tuvieron que responder a preguntas en temas como turismo, exportación, gobierno, inversión, inmigración, cultura, patrimonio y población. Canadá terminó segunda, seguida de Suiza, Inglaterra y Suecia. Por su parte, Estados Unidos terminó en el puesto 11, Brasil 15 y México 16.

Varios países (la gran mayoría de ellos en vías de desarrollo) están sugiriendo a sus ciudadanos interesados en buscar fortuna en otros países que tomen en cuenta la oferta australiana pero no antes sin avisarles que es muy importante saber hablar inglés y estar listo para tener que adaptarse a un estilo de vida y cultura diferente al suyo, es decir, ir preparado sabiendo el idioma del país y siempre respetando y adaptarse al nuevo país, sus reglas y costumbres.

Australia, a pesar de su poca población y necesidad actual de mano de obra, es una potencia mundial. Por ejemplo, en deportes está a la altura de Estados Unidos, China, Francia, Inglaterra, etc., y ha terminado entre las siete primeras posiciones en el conteo total de medallas en las últimas tres olimpíadas (Atlanta 1996, séptima con 41 medallas; Sydney 2000, cuarta con 58 medallas; y Atenas 2004, cuarta con 50 medallas). Una gran hazaña para un país con una población de 20 millones de personas.

Australia es un buen ejemplo a seguir en materia de oportunidades para inmigrantes y el sistema organizado que tienen para atraer y mantener inmigrantes calificados.

Australia Seeks Qualified Immigrants

Australia has launched a campaign to attract 100,000 qualified immigrants. According to the government of the Pacific island, especially the Department of Immigration, Australia urgently needs welders, carpenters, electricians, engineers, accountants, hair dressers, doctors, nurses and, above all, miners and construction workers.

The campaign is taking place in London (England), Amsterdam (Holland), Berlin (Germany) and Chennai (India), but people from all over the world are welcome to apply for jobs.

Australia occupies a territory as big as the United Sates (not including Alaska and Hawaii), but it only has a population of 20 million (compared to the population of 300 million that the United States has). Australia has always been a country of immigrants. During and a little after World War II, thousands of European immigrants decided to flee from the terrors of war and start a new life in Australia. As in 1945 and 2000, around six million people, also motivated by the facilities that the government of Canberra offered, decided to immigrate to the land of kangaroos and koalas. Australia was actively seeking a human labor force under the politics known as "Populate or Perish," which helped the country double its population during those years. With an unemployment level of less than 5 percent and a good quality of life, Australia need not envy the countries of the European Economic Community, the United States, Canada, and Japan. Australia is a very attractive destination for those immigrants who are seeking to better their economic situation and a chance at a better future for their children. Many Australian companies are actively seeking laborers to cover the demand of work and are energetically working with the government to attract qualified employees. During the recruitment campaign, people interested in working in Australia, will meet with government and company representatives.

Last year, 80,000 professionals went to Australia, but due to the high demand of jobs for government and companies as well as high retirement rates, the government has been forced to jump start this new campaign.

In a recent survey done by the 'Global Market Insite. Nation Brand Index,' Australia was elected as the most attractive country to live in and to do business with among a list of 25 countries. The people surveyed (10,000 people in 10 countries, including the United States, but not Australia) had to respond to questions regarding tourism, trade, government, investment, immigration, culture, heritage, and population. Canada came in second followed by Switzerland, England and Sweden. As for the United States, it came in 11th place, Brazil was 15th and Mexico was 16th.

Several countries (the majority of them on the road to development) are suggesting their citizens interested in finding fortune in other countries take into consideration the offer of the Australian government, but not without warning them that they should learn English and be prepared to adapt to a new life style as well as a different culture, in other words, to go prepared to know the country's language and always respecting and adapting to the new country, its laws and customs.

Australia, despite their low population and need for laborers, has potential. For example, in sports it is at the same level as the United States, China, France, England, etcetera, and has finished in either seventh or higher in the last three Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996, seventh with 41 medals; Sydney 2000, fourth with 58 medals; and Athens 2004, fourth with 50 medals). A great accomplishment for a country with a population of 20 million.

Australia is a good example to follow when it comes to having opportunities for immigrants and having a well organized system that not only attracts but also maintains qualified immigrants.
