"Latino Pride" Art Competition 2006 at CLACS-UGA-Athens
We are proud to announce the first annual Art Competition sponsored by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) and the Georgia Center for Continuing Education at The University of Georgia. We would like to honor outstanding high school and middle school students in Athens by holding this contest. All artwork selected will be displayed in the Hill Atrium of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education at UGA, and a reception will be held on April 1, 2006 for the participants and their families, where the winners will be announced.
There will be prizes and awards for each category, so enter today.
Deadline is Monday, March 6, 2006.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE:
The art competition is open to all high school students, grades 9-12, and middle school students, grades 6-9 who are currently attending a high school in Athens. Students are not required to be enrolled in art classes at the present time, although adult supervision would be very helpful in the preparation of the artwork presentation.
COMPETITION RULES:
Theme: "Latino Pride" ("Orgullo Latino")
Categories:
Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, temperas, etc.
Drawings: pastels, colored pencil, charcoal, ink, markers.
Artwork must be Original in Concept, Design and Execution, and may not violate any U.S. Copyright Laws.
Artwork will be judged on the following criteria: Originality and Creativity, Composition and Design, and Craftsmanship and Skill. Points will be awarded in each area.
All work should not be smaller than 8" x 10" and should not exceed 18" x 24" in size. It can be horizontal or vertical.
All work should not be framed at the moment of delivery.
Limit of two entries total per student, one entry per category.
No more than one student may work on a single entry.
Hand-print your name and title of artwork neatly on the back of each entry.
Also, attach one entry form to the back of each entry.
Winners will be chosen from the two categories with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and honorable mention. The prizes have a value of $100, $70, and $40 respectively, plus other prizes for honorable recipients.
Participants that need canvases or another type of drawing or painting sheets may contact the organizers at giova@uga.edu to get one for free.
EXHIBITION:
Winners will be announced at the Opening Reception, which will be held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, at the University of Georgia, on April 1st, 2006.
The winners' artwork and other selected artwork will be displayed on that day, and they will remain in the gallery for 3 weeks. All participants whose work is exhibited will be notified by mail, and they are expected to attend the event with their families. Art teachers involved will also be invited.
All artwork will be returned to the participants the first week of May, 2006.
