Campaña para castrar animales La campaña titulada "Beat the Heat" se está llevando a cabo del 15 de enero al 15 de febrero. Las clínicas veterinarias locales ofrecen 20 por ciento de descuento para castrar mascotas. Esta es el primer año que se realiza la campaña y la meta a largo plazo es que los refugios para animales locales reduzcan su población de perros y gatos y así no tener que matar a aquellos que no son reclamados o adoptados. Sin embargo, estamos muy lejos de esta meta en el sur de Estados Unidos. En la actualidad, los estados del norte son tan responsables que en algunas ocasiones enviamos animales en camiones provenientes de nuestros refugios superpoblados. Los perros y gatos nacidos el año pasado, son ahora lo suficientemente mayores para tener sus propios cachorritos y gatitos, y también son lo suficientemente mayores para ser castrados. Por cada gatito y cachorrito que nace, hay otro en algún refugio que no tiene o consigue un hogar. Sea responsable y castre a sus mascotas que tanto quiere. Informe a sus amigos, vecinos y familiares con mascotas sobre esta gran oportunidad y agradezca a su veterinario por ayudarnos a prevenir la sobrepoblación en esta área. La organización PAWS (Pet Assistance and Welfare Society of Athens) ofrece ayuda financiera a los dueños de mascotas. Durante todo el año y durante esta campaña, pedimos a los dueños de mascotas que puedan hacer frente a la operación que por favor actúen responsablemente. Beat the Heat Campaign The Beat the Heat campaign is from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15. Local veterinary clinics are offering 20% off spays/neuters. This is the first annual beat the heat and the long-term goal is that the local animal shelters will have a lesser burden of puppies and kittens and in a perfect world no longer euthanize animals. We are a long way from that goal in the south. Actually, northern states are so responsible that often we ship animals by the 18-wheeler from our overcrowded shelters to theirs. Last year's puppies and kittens are now old enough to have their own babies, and are certainly old enough to spay or neuter. For every kitten and puppy that is born, there is another kitten or puppy, cat or dog, at a shelter that will not get a home. Be responsible and spay/neuter the animals that you care for. Tell your pet-owning friends, family and neighbors about this great opportunity. And thank your veterinarian and staff for helping to prevent pet overpopulation in our area.
