Carta al editor Los inmigrantes, no los estadounidenses, deben adaptarse por Dan Hoggard Estoy cansado de que este país se preocupe sobre si ofendemos a algunas personas o sus culturas. Desde los ataques terroristas del 11 de septiembre, hemos experimentado un renacer en el patriotismo de la mayoría de estadounidenses. Sin embargo, el polvo de los ataques aún no se había diseminado cuando las personas "políticamente correctas" y "liberales" comenzaron a quejarse de la posibilidad de que nuestro patriotismo estaba ofendiendo a otros. No estoy en contra de la inmigración ni guardo rencor contra aquellas personas que están buscando una mejor vida al venir a los Estados Unidos, trabajar duro y respetar nuestras leyes. La gran mayoría de nuestra población está compuesta de descendientes de inmigrantes. Sin embargo, existen algunas cosas que las personas que han llegado hace poco a nuestro país, incluyendo a algunas nacidas aquí, que necesitan entender. Esta idea de que los Estados Unidos es una comunidad multicultural ha servido sólo para diluir nuestra soberanía y nuestra identidad nacional. Como estadounidenses, tenemos nuestra propia cultura, nuestra propia sociedad, nuestro propio idioma y nuestro propio estilo de vida con leyes que deben ser respetadas. Esta cultura ha sido desarrollado durante siglos de esfuerzos, pruebas y victorias de millones de hombres y mujeres quienes han buscado, e incluso muerto, por lograr esta libertad. Hablamos inglés, no español, ni portugués, árabe, chino, japonés, ruso u otro idioma. Por esta razón, si Ud. desea convertirse en parte de nuestra sociedad, entonces aprenda nuestro idioma. "En Dios creemos" es nuestro lema. Este lema no es un lema cristiano, de derechas o político. Adoptamos este lema porque hombres y mujeres cristianos, basados en principios cristianos, con creencias cristianas fundaron esta gran nación. Esto está claramente documentado. Es totalemente apropiado exhibir estas creencias en las paredes de nuestras escuelas. ¿Cómo puede alguien decir que los Diez Mandamientos no representan a "todas las personas" de esta tierra y son principios que nos guían? Es difícil entender y hace que me pregunte, en el nombre de Dios, ¿qué le enseña a sus hijos si piensa que estos mandamientos son ofensivos? Si Dios lo ofende, le sugiero que considere otra parte del mundo como su nuevo hogar porque Dios es y será siempre parte de nuestra cultura. Habrán muchas personas tartamudeando y llorando el día del juicio final. Si las Estrellas y las Barras de bandera de los Estados Unidos lo ofenden, o a Ud. no le gusta ser parte de esta República, o menosprecia a nuestro ejército, Ud. debería estar avergonzado de si mismo. Somos felices con nuestro Dios, nuestra República y nuestra cultura y no tenemos ningún deseo de cambiar, y no nos importa qué cosas hacia en su país. Siempre recuerde: "Delta está lista cuando Ud. lo esté". Este es nuestro país, nuestra tierra y nuestro estilo de vida. Nuestro Primer Artículo de la Constitución permite a todos los ciudadanos expresar su opinión y nosotros le permitiremos todas las oportunidades para que lo haga, pero tan pronto haya terminado de quejarse acerca de nuestro Dios, nuestro Presidente, nuestra Bandera, nuestro Voto de Lealtad, nuestro Ejército, nuestro Lema Nacional o nuestro Estilo de Vida. Los animo a que aprovechen una de nuestras libertades más importantes: el derecho a irse. Dan Hoggard. Athens, GA.		Letter to the Editor Immigrants, Not Americans, Must Adapt by Dan Hoggard I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" and the "liberal crowd" began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America and working hard and following our laws. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle with laws to follow. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought for and even given their life for this freedom. We speak English, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn our language. "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, or political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, with Christian beliefs, founded this great nation. This is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display these beliefs on the walls of our schools. How anyone could say the Ten Commandments do not reflect "all peoples" of this land as guiding principles, is hard to fathom and makes me wonder, what in the name of God are you teaching your children if these commandments are offensive? If God offends you, may I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is and will always be part of our culture? There will be a lot of stuttering and tears on the Judgment Day. If the Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like being part of this Republic, or you have disdain for our dedicated military, you should be ashamed of yourself. We are happy with our God, our Republic and our culture and we have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. Always remember: "Delta is ready when you are." This is our country, our land and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his or her opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so, but once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our God, our President, our Flag, our Pledge, our Military, our National Motto, or our Way of Life. I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom: The right to leave. Dan Hoggard. Athens, GA.
