Cultura Estudiantes de escuela primaria experimentan la cultura hispana por Enrique Carrión Durante el mes de octubre, varios eventos se llevaron a cabo en Athens para celebrar el Mes de la Hispanidad. La Universidad de Georgia organizó muchos de estos eventos pero una escuela primaria y sus estudiantes quisieron tener su propia celebración. La escuela Barrow Elementary en Athens organizó una tarde con comida, mœsica y actividades para los niños y sus padres. Algunos estudiantes, con la ayuda de estudiantes voluntarios del Departameto de Español de UGA, prepararon mesas con información de siete países donde se habla español: Argentina, Colombia, México, Perœ, España, Venezuela y Guinea Ecuatorial. "Tal vez Guinea Ecuatorial no sea conocida por muchos como un país donde se hable español pero este pequeño país en el Oeste de Africa, con una población de poco más de medio millón de personas, tiene español y francés como idiomas oficiales", explicó un estudiante. "Queremos enseñar a otros este dato tan interesante". Los visitantes tuvieron la oportunidad de probar comida hispana y visitar las mesas con información. En cada mesa, los visitantes pudieron aprender más sobre los países donde se habla español y responder una hoja con preguntas especialmente preparada para este evento. Después de cada visita, los estudiantes sellaron un pasaporte con el nombre del país permitiendo a los visitantes demostrar que habían visitado y obtenido nueva información sobre ese país.		Culture Elementary School Students Experience Hispanic Culture by Enrique Carrión During October, several events took place in Athens to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The University of Georgia organized most of these events, but a small elementary school and its students wanted to have their own celebration. Barrow Elementary School in Athens organized an afternoon with food, music and activities for children and their parents. Some students, with the help of volunteer students from the UGA Spanish Department, set up tables with information on seven Spanish-speaking countries: Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Venezuela and Equatorial Guinea. "Equatorial Guinea might not be known to many as a Spanish-speaking country, but this tiny country in Western Africa, with a population of a little bit more than half-a-million people, has Spanish and French as its official languages," explained a student. "We want others to learn about this interesting fact." Visitors had a chance to taste Hispanic food and visit the information tables. At every table, visitors were able to learn more about Spanish-speaking countries and respond questions on sheet specially prepared for this event. After each visit, the students stamped a passport with the name of the country allowing visitors to proof that they stopped by and gained new information on that country.
