Maria Cobo ayuda a planificar vacaciones

Todos trabajamos duro. Tenemos que hacer frente a largos horarios, estrés, jefes, empleados, clientes, familia, responsabilidades, facturas y muchas otras cosas que hacen que nuestro cuerpo nos pida a gritos un receso, unas vacaciones. Es ahí cuando María Cobo puede ayudar.

María trabaja en la agencia de viajes Global Escapes en Athens, Georgia. La agencia se especializa en viajes de negocios o de placer y ofrece a sus clientes una gran variedad de destinos y paquetes turísticos, cruceros, reserva de autos y hoteles para así asegurar al cliente unas vacaciones tranquilas y relajadas.

María llegó a Athens proveniente de Quito, Ecuador hace poco más de un año cuando su marido, Agustín Cornejo, comenzó a trabajar en la Fundación Maquipucuna, una organización sin fines de lucro con oficina en Athens. La fundación, además de realizar trabajos de investigación en Ecuador, también comercializa el café ecuatoriano "Choco Andes" en los Estados Unidos.

María tiene 20 años de experiencia en la industria del turismo después de haber trabajado para las aerolíneas Eastern y American de Estados Unidos y la holandesa KLM en Quito, además de tener su propia agencia de viajes.

Cuando María llegó a Athens junto a su marido y tres hijos, Alvaro, María Fernanda y Camila, no tenía idea que el destino la ayudaría a seguir trabajando en lo que tanto le gusta. "Cuando llegué a Athens no quería quedarme en casa y no hacer nada", explica María. "Un día, leyendo el periódico, conseguí un anuncio donde buscaban a una persona para trabajar en la agencia". Tan pronto la entrevistaron, le ofrecieron el trabajo. "Me ayudó mucho el hecho que tengo tantos años de experiencia en este campo y el ser bilingŸe", confiesa María, quien de esta manera se convirtió en el contacto en español en la agencia para la comunidad hispana de Athens y alrededores. "Tengo clientes de muchas partes del mundo".

La agencia Global Escapes fue creada hace 16 años y ofrece servicios de viajes a nivel nacional e internacional. "Hay muchos lugares en Estados Unidos a donde viajar, no sólo al extranjero", sugiere María. "Cada vez hay más hispanos que quieren hacer turismo o tomar sus vacaciones dentro de Estados Unidos y desean visitar lugares como Walt-Disney, el Parque Yellowstone o el Cañon del Colorado".

María lleva cuatro meses trabajando en la agencia y varias personas de habla hispana ya la han visitado con preguntas e inquietudes sobre la planificación de sus vacaciones. "Los clientes que hablan español se sienten más seguros hablando con un representante de viajes que también hable español", dice María. "Es mejor conversar cara a cara que hacerlo a través del telefóno o de internet", comenta María con respecto al comprar pasajes de avión y otros servicios en internet.

Maria Cobo Helps to Plan Your Vacations

We all work hard. We have to face long hours at work, stress, bosses, co-workers, clients, family, responsibilities, bills and many other things that make our body cry for a break, for a vacation. That's when Maria Cobo can help.

Maria works at Global Escapes travel agency in Athens, Georgia. The agency specializes in business and family trips and offers a large variety of destinations and packages, cruises, car rental and hotels to their clients to assure fun and relaxed vacations.

Maria moved to Athens from Quito, Ecuador almost one year ago after her husband, Agustin Cornejo, started to work for the Maquipucuna Foundation, a non-profit organization with an office in Athens. The foundation does research work in Ecuador and also commercializes the Ecuadorian coffee "Choco Andes" in the United States.

Maria has 20 years of experience in the tourist industry after working with Eastern and American airlines of the United States and Dutch KLM in Quito, and she has also run her own travel agency.

When Maria arrived in Athens, along with her husband and three children, Alvaro, Maria Fernanda and Camila, she didn't have any idea that destiny would allow her to keep working on what she likes doing so much. "When I arrived in Athens, I didn't want to stay at home and do nothing," Maria explains. "One day, reading the newspaper, I saw an ad where a travel agency was looking to hire a person." As soon as she was interviewed, she was offered a job Global Escapes. "It really helped me that I have so many years of experience in this field and being bilingual," Maria admits. This way, Maria becomes the contact in Spanish at the agency for the Hispanic community in Athens and surroundings. "I have a lot of clients from around the world," Maria says.

Global Escapes was created 16 years ago and offers national and international travel services. "There are many places to travel in the United States, not just overseas," Maria suggests. "There are more Hispanics everyday who want to travel or take a vacation in the United States and wish to visit places like Walt-Disney, Yellowstone Park, or the Grand Canyon," Maria explains.

Maria has worked at the agency for four months and several Spanish-speaking people have already visited her with questions and ideas for planning their next vacations. "Spanish-speaking clients feel more comfortable speaking with a travel representative who also speaks Spanish," says Maria. "It's better to have a conversation face to face than to have to do it over the phone or online," advises Maria about buying airplane tickets and other services online.
