Negocio local agradece a la comunidad latina

Cerca de la empresa Goldkist y otras plantas procesadoras de pollos en Chase Street en Athens está situado "Classic City Services". El negocio, quizás poco conocido fuera de la comunidad latina, ofrece varios servicios a los latinos que viven en Athens y alrededores.

El sábado, 25 de septiembre, Classic City Services organizó una "fiesta para todos" para que la gente viniera y supiera que "estamos aquí para ayudar a la comunidad hispana", según dijo Sara Suarez, directora de Classic City Services.

Aunque Classic City Services ha estado en Athens durante 28 años, fundado en 1976 por Ron Hamby de Athens, la empresa no empezó a ayudar a la comunidad latina hasta los '80. Con su primer negocio llamado Classic City Bonding, el cual ayuda a clientes con la fianza para salir de la cárcel, Hamby se dio cuenta de que "otras empresas de finanza no estaban interesadas en ayudar a los latinos. Por esta razón, empecé a contratar a empleados bilingŸes y así empecé a ayudar a la comunidad hispana aquí en Athens".

La fiesta del sábado ofreció comida, juegos para niños, rifas y muchas otras cosas para que todos se divirtieran. Pero además de presentar al público una fiesta, la gente de Classic City Services también quería educar a los presentes sobre sus servicios y como dice Suárez, "en realidad sí queremos ayudarlos (latinos), en vez de lo que pasa con muchas otras empresas de seguros las cuales piensan que los latinos van a regresar a sus paises de origen y no vale la pena ayudarles". Hamby explicó que muchas compañías de seguros tienen la tendencia de cambiar los precios, algo que nunca ha hecho y nunca hará él. "Trato a mis clientes con respeto", dijo. Hamby siguió explicando que no sólo ofrece Classic City Services seguros, pero también ofrece traducción de documentos, líneas telefónicas y teléfonos celulares.

También estuvieron en la fiesta representantes de Metro PCS, una empresa de teléfonos celulares. Sunny Uwagwu, uno de los representantes, explicó que asistieron a la fiesta porque "no mucha gente se da cuenta de todos los servicios que ofrece Classic City Services. Además de los seguros, es un proveedor de celulares". Durante el evento, Metro PCS, regaló dos celulares y ofreció una "ruleta de regalos", con la cuál regalaron varios premios a toda la gente que quería participar.

Era muy fácil ver el aprecio que tiene la gente por las cosas que hace Classic City Services por la comunidad latina en Athens. "Nos ayudan mucho", dijo Mario Capcha, quién llegó con su familia hace dos años de Perú. "Para alguien que no habla muy bien el inglés es muy importante tener este tipo de ayuda en nuestra comunidad".

Lo que empezó como una pequeña empresa hace casi treinte años, ha llegado a ser un negocio muy importante en la comunidad latina local. El dueño, Ron Hamby, hablando de sus experiencias y ayuda a la comunidad latina en Athens, explicó que "tenemos una puqueña comunidad aquí en Athens. Es difícil ser extranjero en este país pero creo que a veces la lengua de compasión, en la forma de una sonrisa o un abrazo, puede hablar más fuerte que las palabras".

Sin duda, con toda su ayuda a la comunidad latina en esta área, Hamby y la gente en Classic City Services están cumpliendo su meta de ayudar a la comunidad que forma una parte importante de esta ciudad.

Business Offers Thanks to the Latino Community

Near the Goldkist factory and the other chicken processing plants that line Chase Street in Athens is located "Classic City Services." The business, perhaps not very well known outside the Latino community, offers various services to Latinos that live in and around Athens.

Saturday, the 25th of September, Classic City Services organized a "party for everyone" so that people could come and discover that "we're here to help the Hispanic community," Sara Suarez said, the director of Classic City Services.

Even though Classic City Services has been in Athens for 28 years, founded in 1976 by Athens-native Ron Hamby, the business did not begin to help the Latino community until the 80s. With his first business, Classic City Bonding, which provides clients with money to exit from jail, Hamby began to realize that "other bond companies weren't interested in helping Latinos. Because of that, I began to hire bilingual employees and through these efforts began to help the Hispanic community here in Athens."

The party Saturday offered food, games for children, raffles and many other things so that everyone had an enjoyable time. But besides offering the community a party, the people of Classic City Services also wanted to educate those that were present about the services and that, as Suárez says, "the truth is that we really want to help them (Latinos), instead of what happens with many insurance companies that think that Latinos are going to return to their respective countries of origin and that it is not worth the trouble to help them." Hamby explained that many insurance companies have the tendency to change their prices, something that he has never done and never will do. "I treat my customers with respect," he said. Hamby continued to explain that not only does Classic City Services offer insurance, but they also offer translation of documents, telephone lines and cellular phones.

Also present in the party were representatives of Metro PCS, a cellular phone company. Sunny Uwagwu, one of the representatives, explained that they attended the party because "not a lot of people realize all the services that Classic City Services offers. Besides offering insurance, they are a cellular phone provider." During the event, Metro PCS gave away two cellular phones and offered a "prize wheel," with which they gave away various gifts to anyone that wished to participate.

It was very easy to see the appreciation that the people had for all the things that Classic City Services does for the Latino community in Athens. "They help us a lot," said Mario Capchu, who arrived with his family two years ago from Peru. "For someone that does not speak English very well it is very important to have this type of help in our community."

What began as a small business almost thirty years ago has become one of incredible importance in the local Latino community. The founder Ron Hamby, speaking of his experiences and help with the Latino community in Athens, explained that "we have a small community here in Athens. It is difficult being a foreigner in this country but I believe that sometimes the language of compassion, in the form of a smile or a pat on the back, can speak stronger than words.

Without a doubt, with all their help to the Latino community in this area, Hamby and the people in Classic City Services are obtaining their goal of helping the community that forms a very important part of this city.
