Votantes latinos en Georgia

La meta de la Asociación de Representates Latinos Electos de Georgia es la de aumentar al doble el número de latinos registrados para votar en Georgia en las elecciones presidenciales del 2 de noviembre del 2004.

Las organizaciones participantes son:

- La Asociación de Representates Latinos Electos de Georgia (GALEO por sus siglas en inglés)

- Junta de Líderes Comunitarios de Atlanta

- Georgia Rural Urban Summit (GRUS)

- Georgian for Healthcare

- Comité Hispano del Condado Hall

- Trabajos con Justicia

- Proyecto de registro electoral y educación del suroeste (SVREP por sus siglas en inglés)

GALEO está trabajando conjuntamente con SVREP en su campaña nacional para registrar a 10 millones de votantes latinos para las elecciones presidenciales del 2004. GALEO también está colaborando con la Asociación Nacional de Representantes Latinos Electos (NALEO por sus siglas en inglés) y Georgians for Healthcare en la camapña GOTV de octubre y noviembre. GALEO también ofrece el seminario "Civics 101", el cual consiste en el entrenamiento de líderes comunitarios para que organicen y comiencen sus propias campañas de registro y para educar a los líderes latinos sobre el proceso legislativo en el gobierno de Georgia. Los esfuerzos de registro serán llevados a cabo por SVREP y GALEO mientras que GRUS se encargará del "Proceso Legislativo".

El número de latinos en Georgia quienes son ciudadanos es 209.421, lo cual representa el 49 por ciento del número total de latinos viviendo en Georgia según el Censo del 2000. El número total de votantes registrados quienes se consideran de origen latino/hispano es 15.376. El número total de votantes registrados quienes se consideran "otro" es 97.564. GALEO y NALEO trabajarán juntos para llegar a los "otros" para que se registren otra vez bajo el grupo étnico que mejor los identifique.

Latino Georgia Voters

The goal of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials is to double the number of Latino registered voters for the 2004 Presidential election in Georgia.

Participating organizations:

- Coordinating Council of Latino Community Leaders in Atlanta

- Georgia Rural Urban Summit (GRUS)

- Georgians for Healthcare

- The Hispanic Committee of Hall County

- Jobs with Justice

- Southwest Voter Registration and Education Project (SVREP)

GALEO is working in conjunction with the SVREP's goal of 10-4 national campaign, to register and engage 10 million Latino voters in the 2004 Presidential election. Working with the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO) and Georgians for Healthcare for the GOTV campaign in October/November. GALEO is also offering the Civics 101 Seminar, which consists of training of community leaders on initiating their own voter registration campaigns and educating the Latino leaders on the legislative process in Georgia government. The Voter Registration efforts will be conducted by SVREP while GALEO and the GRUS will conduct the "Legislative Process".

The number of Latinos in Georgia who are United States citizens is 209,421, which represents 49 per cent of total number of Latinos living in Georgia according to 2000 Census. The total number of registered voters who self-identify as Latino/Hispanic is 15,376. The total number of registered voters who self-identified as "Other" is 97,564.

GALEO and NALEO will work together to reach "Others" for re-registration to accurately reflect ethnicity.
