Jóvenes hispanos

Grecia Erazo

Mi nombre es Grecia Erazo, soy una chica guatemalteca, tengo 15 años, vivo en Athens y estudio en la Escuela Secundaria Clarke Central.

Me gustaría compartir con los lectores lo que hacen las chicas hispanas de 14 y 15 años.

Creo que a mi edad es una etapa muy linda porque hay muchos sueños que seguir y muchas metas a que llegar. A esta edad es cuando hay mucha presión sobre el tema de las drogas y también las pandillas. A esta edad siempre tenemos tropiezos y cometemos errores, pero gracias a esos tropiezos aprendemos, nos levantamos y seguimos adelente y agarramos más fuerzas para seguir en esta vida. Lo mismo sucede con los estudios, los cuales son muy inportantes y, claro está, hay que terminalos y llegar a ser alguien en la vida, y para llegar a ser alguien hay que trabajar duro y luchar para poder triunfar porque algún día vamos a ser padres y creo que nosotros queremos lo mejor para los que van a ser nuestros hijos. También creo que a esta edad no necesitamos un carro, una casa, un celular o nada material, pero lo que sí necesitamos es amor y consejos de nuestros padres. Hay una frase que una persona muy querida me enseñó: "Si quieres la paz lucha por la justicia". Esa frase la he agarrado como un consejo y me ha ayudado. Mi consejo para todos los chicos y chicas es que sigamos adelante y seguir nuestras metas y sueños. Debemos respetar a nuestra familia y principalmente a nuestros padres y no defraudarlos porque nosotros, los jóvenes, valemos mucho.

My name is Grecia Erazo. I'm a 15 years old Guatemalan girl living in Athens and I attend Clarke Central High School.

I would like to share with the readers what we, 14 and 15 years old Hispanic girls do.

I believe this age is a beautiful time in our life because we have lots of dreams and goals to reach. Also, at this age is when we get a lot of pressure from drugs and being involved with gangs. We also make a lot of mistakes, but thanks to those mistakes we are able to learn from them and to keep on going. We have the power to control our life. Another big issue in our life is education and it is important to finish school in order to become somebody in the future, to be able to get a job and work hard too. One day, we'll be parents and we all want the best for our children.

I also think that at this age, we don't need a car, a house, or a cell phone. We don't need material things, but what we do need is love and lots of support from our parents.

There's a saying that a person who I love very much once told me: "If we want peace, we have too fight for justice." This sentence has helped me throughout my life. My recommendation to all young people out there is to keep on going and follow our goals and dreams. In order to accomplish this, first of all, we need to respect our parents and family and never let them down because we, the youth, are worth a lot.

I'll always be happy and proud of being a "chapina."
