Nuevo centro de voluntarios en UGA

El Departamento de Actividades Estudiantiles ha anunciado su nuevo programa de servicios de voluntarios en la Universidad de Georgia: Voluntario UGA - Conectando Estudiantes con Athens. Diseñado para ser un centro de recursos para posibles voluntarios y un lugar donde diferentes organizaciones de estudiantes que ofrecen ayuda a la comunidad puedan reunirse, el centro se ubicará en la habitación 163 del Student Tate Center y abrirá sus puertas el miércoles, 25 de agosto.

Creado en parte con una donación de la Asociación de Padres y Familias de UGA, el centro Voluntario UGA es una respuesta al deseo expresado por los estudiantes de UGA para poder involucrarse en la comunidad en la cual viven, más allá de las fronteras del campus de UGA. En el centro de recursos de Voluntario UGA, los estudiantes, profesores y empleados de UGA tendrán la oportunidad de aprender sobre las diferentes organizaciones sin fines de lucro, comunidades locales y programas en Athens, los cuales necesitan los servicios de voluntarios.

"La necesidad de tener un centro de voluntarios en UGA ha crecido enormemente en los últimos años", dijo la directora Joselyn DiRamio. "Estoy muy contenta de haber obtenido el préstamo, apoyo y entusiasmo de los estudiantes, profesores y empleados para crear Voluntario UGA y conectar el campus con la comunidad de Athens en una manera significativa y exitosa".

Además, las organizaciones de estudiantes que tengan un énfasis en ayudar a la comunidad tendrán la oportunidad de reclutar miembros a través del centro Voluntario UGA y anunciar futuros eventos y oportunidad para involucrarse.

New Volunteer UGA Center

The Department of Student Activities has announced the newest development in volunteer services at the University of Georgia: Volunteer UGA - Connecting Students with the Classic City. Designed to be both a resource center for potential volunteers and a home for a collection of student organizations focused on community service, Volunteer UGA will be located in room 163 of the Tate Student Center and will open on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Funded in part by a grant from the UGA Parents and Families Association, Volunteer UGA is a direct response to the expressed desire of UGA students to be more meaningfully involved in the community in which they live beyond the borders of UGA's campus. At the Volunteer UGA resource center, students, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to learn about the many non-profit agencies, local communities and Athens-area programs in need of volunteers.

"The need for a volunteer resource center on UGA's campus has increased tremendously over the past few years," said coordinator Josyln DiRamio. "I am very excited to have the funding, support and enthusiasm from students, staff and faculty to create Volunteer UGA and connect campus with the Athens community in a more meaningful and successful way."

In addition, student organizations with a focus on community service will all have the opportunity to recruit members through the Volunteer UGA center and announce upcoming events and opportunities for involvement.
