Magally Smith traduciendo logros

Magally Smith ha tenido muchos logros desde que llegó de Cuba en 1978. Está siempre llena de energía, con verdaderos deseos de trabajar y lista para ayudar a los demás. Magally irradia estas cualidades a los que la rodean. Vivió en Miami durante 25 años y es Policía Honoraria retirada de esa ciudad. Trabajó en la policía de Miami como especialista en Prensa y Relaciones Públicas, sirviendo de enlace entre el Departamento de Policía y todas las comunidades, incluyendo escuelas, iglesias, negocios, gobierno, entidades privadas y todo lo que contiene una ciudad. También participaba en programas de radio, televisión y con la prensa escrita para promover la prevención del crimen. Una gran parte de su labor era viajar a los países latinoamericanos para implementar programas de prevención de drogas y alcohol para ayudar a los niños, así como política de comunidades a la Policía Nacional.

"La mayor recompensa en mi carrera fue siempre crear eventos especiales en beneficio de los niños pobres de la ciudad", afirma Magally. Uno de estos eventos se llevó a cabo en Athens: "El Reto de Ajedrez para Niños", el cual volverá a repetir en el futuro.

Su último legado en Miami fue una escultura llamada "Armas por Amor" hecha con armas confiscadas por el Departamento de Policía de Miami. Esta escultura fue creada para incrementar la conciencia acerca de la violencia de las armas y en honor de los niños muertos. La obra reposa perennemente en el Cuartel General de la Policía en Miami.

Al visitar a Magally en su oficina, uno puedo ver las condecoraciones obtenidas durante sus veinte años de servicio, locales, estatales, nacionales e internacionales. Varias ciudades y condados de Miami han dedicado el Día de Magally Smith en su honor.

Magally es una mujer de muchos talentos, altamente profesional y sencilla. Está involucrada en muchas actividades. Su educación incluye Maestrías en Sociología, Educación Especial y Educación Física, también tiene entrenamiento profesional en Análisis de Comportamiento en la Universidad Internacional de la Florida (FIU) y en Asuntos de Gobierno en el Instituto de Gobierno de la Florida.

En la actualidad Magally es Intérprete Certificada de las Cortes (sólo hay 35 en Georgia) y Calificada como Intérprete Médico. Poco después de llegar a Athens en el 2002, abrió la compañía Language Services Plus, la cual ofrece servicios de intérpretes y traductores en inglés, español, ruso, francés y alemán. Como Proveedora Oficial de la Comisión de Intérpretes, Magally entrena a otros intérpretes. Recientemente, Magally se hizo Instructora Certificada de 'Prime for Life', un programa de prevención de alcohol y drogas. Magally es de las primeras en ofrecerlo en español.

Magally siente una inmensa gratitud por los jueces y sus amigos de la Corte y de Legal Aid (una organización de la Universidad de Georgia que presta servicio en temas legales). "Siempre me han hecho sentir respetada y querida", admite Magally. También añade, con una sonrisa cálida y llena de amistad, "Estoy en Athens para quedarme y mi esposo ha sido parte de todo lo que he hecho y logrado aquí".

A pesar de sus múltiples compromisos, Magally consigue tiempo para contribuir como Editora en Georgia de la revista "Florida Exclusive", la cual ayudó a crear y cubre temas de arte. La revista trimestral circula en Miami, New York y ahora en Athens.

Dentro de su serie de eventos, Magally trajo recientemente al artista Roberto Weiss para exponer su obra. Magally compara su energía y ganas de hacer las cosas bien con su refrán favorito: "Tu único límite es el tamaño de tus ideas y el grado de tu dedicación".

Magally Smith Translating Achievements

Magally Smith has many achievements since she came from Cuba in 1978. She's always full of energy with a deep desire to work, and, above everything, ready to help others. Magally radiates these qualities to those around her. She lived in Miami for 25 years and is a retired Honorary Police Officer. She worked with the Miami Police Department as Public and Media Relations Specialist. In this capacity, she served as the liaison between the department and the Miami multi-ethnic community, including schools, churches, businesses, government, private entities and everything that had to do with a city. She frequently appeared on radio and television, and wrote articles for newspapers and magazines promoting crime prevention. A major part of her work involved traveling to Latin American countries to help implement programs for drug and alcohol prevention in the schools and community policing for the police forces in those countries.

"The most rewarding part of my career was creating special events to benefit the needy children in the city, more than 20 events all together," Magally says. She replicated one of them in Athens: "The Children's Chess Challenge". Magally plans to repeat this event in the future. Her last legacy in Miami was a sculpture named "Weapons for Love", made with confiscated guns and designed to raise awareness about gun violence and to honor slain children.

When one visits Magally in her office, one can see the accolades that were bestowed upon her during her 20 years with the police, local, state, national and international. Several cities and counties in Florida dedicated a "Magally Smith Day" in her honor.

Magally is a woman of many talents, highly professional and humble. She is involved in many activities. Her education includes Masters Degrees in Sociology, Special Education and Physical Education; she also has further training in Behavior Analysis from Florida International University and Government Issues at the Institute of Government in Florida.

Currently, Magally is a Certified Court Interpreter (there are only 35 in Georgia) and a Qualified Medical Interpreter. Soon after she came to Athens in 2002, she started Language Services Plus, offering interpretation and translation services in English, Spanish, Russian, German and French. As an official provider for the Commission on Interpreters, she trains other potential interpreters. Recently, Magally became one of the first Spanish-speaking Certified Instructors of the "Prime for Life" drug and alcohol prevention program.

"I feel immense gratitude for the judges and all my friends in the courthouse and in Legal Aid (An UGA Law School program), they always make me feel respected and loved". "I'm in Athens to stay", she adds with a warm smile full of friendship. She quickly adds, "of course, my husband has been a part of everything I've done."

Despite her multiple engagements, she still has time to be the Georgia Editor for Florida Exclusive Magazine. This quarterly magazine circulates in Miami, New York and, now, Athens and covers art events.

Recently, she brought artist Robert Weiss to exhibit his works as a part of a series of cultural interchange events. When asked how she does all of these things, she replies, "This is my favorite quote: Your only limit is the size of your ideas and the degree of your dedication".
