Fútbol Club Barcelona: más que un club by Enrique Carrión ¿Cuántas entidades deportivas pueden presumir de tener 106 años de historia, 125.000 socios, un estadio con capacidad para 98.000 personas, 13 secciones deportivas, 1.600 peñas (grupos de seguidores) en todo el mundo, cientos de trofeos nacionales e internacionales en su palmarés y ser considerada el símbolo de toda una región y sus seis millones de habitantes? Sólo una: el Fútbol Club Barcelona. El F.C. Barcelona está ubicado en la ciudad costera de Barcelona en Cataluña, al Este de España. Con una tradición social, cultural y deportiva cada vez más extensa, el F.C. Barcelona es considerado el club deportivo más importante del mundo. La sección deportiva más famosa es su equipo de fútbol, el cual suma veintidós Campeonatos de Catalunya, dos Copas Latinas, tres Copas de Ferias (antigua Copa de la UEFA), cuatro Recopas, una Copa de Europa, dos Supercopas de Europa, veinticuatro Copas del Rey, dieciséis Ligas Españolas y cinco Supercopas de España. El Barça, como se le conoce, es el único club de Europa que ha estado presente cada año en las competiciones europeas desde su creación en 1955. También es el rey de la Recopa, con cuatro títulos, y es el club en España que más veces ha ganado el Campeonato de Copa del Rey, con un total de veinticuatro. Las secciones de la entidad incluyen fútbol, baloncesto, balonmano, hockey patines, atletismo, hockey sobre hielo, patinaje artístico, fútbol sala, rugby, béisbol, voleibol, ciclismo y fútbol femenino, las cuales han logrado numerosos éxitos a nivel nacional e internacional. Hasta el año 2004, las secciones sumaban 829 títulos. European Champions 1992 Hans Gamper, también conocido con el nombre de Joan, fundó el Barça el 29 de noviembre de 1899. Gamper, de origen suizo, junto a 11 compañeros crearon el primer equipo de fútbol del Barça. Por aquellos tiempos, el "foot-ball" no era un deporte popular pero esos pioneros nunca imaginaron la repercusión que su iniciativa tendría en la historia y vidas de tantas personas. Los colores que escogió Gamper para representar al club fueron el azul y grana, los cuales también representan los colores de la ciudad suiza donde nació: Winterthur. El momento más importante en la historia deportiva del club sucedió el 20 de mayo de 1992 cuando el holandés Ronald Koeman, en el minuto 112, marcó de falta directa el gol de la victoria sobre la Sampdoria italiana en el mítico estadio inglés de Wambley para así levantar por primera vez la tan codiciada Copa de Europa, un trofeo que había evadido al Barça desde su creación. En lo social, el club cuenta con más socios que cualquier otra entidad deportiva en el mundo. Entre sus socios se encuentran personajes famosos como el Papa Juan Pablo II, el tenor Josep Carreras y el cantante Joan Manuel Serrat. En el tema cultural, el Barça tiene un museo que ocupa una superficie de 3.500 metros2 donde se exhiben los trofeos más importantes ganados por las secciones deportivas y obras de arte de artista de renombre como Salvador Dalí y Joan Miró. El museo fue construido en 1984 y es visitado por más de un millón de personas cada año. Además, cuenta con el Centro de Documentación, que reúne biblioteca, hemeroteca, archivo fotográfico, documental y de vídeo. El Camp Nou es el estadio donde juega la sección de fútbol. Con una capacidad para 98.000 personas, es el más grande de España y es reconocido con cinco estrellas por parte de la Unión Europea de Fútbol Asociados (UEFA), lo cual le permite acoger los más importantes torneos futbolísticos como campeonatos mundiales (1982) o finales de la Liga de Campeones (1999). Grandes jugadores de fútbol latinoamericanos como los argentinos Diego Armando Maradona, Javier Saviola y Juan Román Riquelme, los peruanos Hugo Sotil y Teófilo Cubillas, los brasileños Evaristo de Macedo, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho o el mexicano Rafael Márquez juegan o han pasado por la filas del Barça. Only one: the Barcelona Soccer Club. The F.C. Barcelona is headquartered in the costal city of Barcelona in Cataluña, in the Eastern part of Spain. With a social, cultural and sporting tradition that continues to be more extensive, the F.C. Barcelona is considered to be the most important soccer club in the world. The most famous sporting section is its soccer team, which has earned twenty-two Catalonian Championships, two Latin Cups, three Feria Cups (former UEFA Cup), four Recopas, one European Cup, two Spanish Super-Cups, twenty-four King Cups, sixteen Spanish Leagues, and five Spanish Super-Cups. "Barça," as it is known, is the only European club that has been present annually in European competitions since their creation in 1955. Additionally, the club is the king of the Recopa, with four titles, and is the Spanish club that has won the most number of King's Cup Championships with twenty-four. The different sport sections of the club include soccer, basketball, handball, roller hockey, athletics, ice hockey, figure skating, indoor soccer, rugby, baseball, volleyball, cycling, and feminine soccer, all of which have obtained numerous successes at the national and international levels.
