María Gloria Cardarelli: Programa de ayuda para tramitar impuestos

No hay mejor manera de conocer a las personas de la ciudad donde vivimos que participando y ayudando en programas comunitarios donde podemos utilizar nuestro conocimiento laboral para hacer más fácil la vida de los demás. Esto es lo que ha hecho María Gloria Cardarelli en Athens.

Muchos hispanos viviendo en Athens y sus alrededores están acostumbrados a ver a Cardarelli en eventos, ferias y programas donde informa y ayuda a los participantes a tramitar sus impuestos o solicitar un número de identificación para impuestos conocido como "Tax ID". "El Tax ID sirve, no sólo para tramitar los impuestos, pero también para abrir una cuenta de ahorros en un banco, comprar una vivienda o para participar en un programa de préstamos", explica Cardarelli quien llegó a Florida proveniente de su natal Venezuela en 1993.

Antes de venir a Estados Unidos, Cardarelli trabajó en el Departamento de Producción y Ventas de una empresa de decoración en Valencia, Venezuela, pero cuando llegó a Athens en 1997 comenzó a trabajar en la oficina de tramitación de impuestos H&R Block. "Me dí cuenta que existía una gran necesidad de informar, ayudar y dar consejos a la comunidad hispana, no sólo en temas de impuestos, sino también a la hora de adquirir una vivienda", dice Cardarelli sobre sus conversaciones con clientes y gente en la comunidad. Por esa razón, Cardarelli decidió tomar, hace tres años, un curso en Athens Tech para conseguir la licencia y convertirse en agente de bienes raíces y luego en Realtor¨.

Cardarelli ha trabajado durante los últimos años con la Iglesia Católica San José, la Hermana Margarita y el Oásis Católico para ofrecer información y ayuda para rellenar las planillas de impuestos y así utilizar su conocimiento en este campo para ayudar a la comunidad hispana. "Otras personas cobran por rellenar un formulario de impuestos para personas extranjeras que trabajan en Estados Unidos", explica Cardarelli sobre el formulario conocido como Individual Tax Identification Number o ITIN por sus siglas en inglés. "Yo lo hago como un servicio comunitario. He ayudado mucho a los hispanos". Cardarelli también admite que el tema de los impuestos no es fácil y hay que manternerse bien informado sobre el tema porque las leyes han cambiado en los últimos años.

En la actualidad, Cardarelli está trabajando en la venta de viviendas en el vecindario Acadia en Vincent Drive en el norte de Athens. Alejandro y Alicia Martínez son residentes de Acadia y realizaron todos los trámites de la compra de su casa con la ayuda de Cardarelli. "Llevamos dos años viviendo en este vecindario. Fuimos unas de las primeras familias en mudarnos aquí", explica Alicia. "Tenemos tres hijos y es un buen lugar para vivir y que los niños jueguen".

La fecha límite para tramitar los impuestos es en abril. Llame al 706-255-5522 y pregunte sobre dónde se realizará el siguiente programa de ayuda con los impuestos. El próximo programa de ayuda con el trámite de impuestos será patrocinado por "El Banco de la Oportunidad".

Maria Gloria Cardarelli: Program Helps to File Taxes

There is no other better way to meet people from the city we live in than participating and helping in community programs where we can use our knowledge from our jobs to make the life of others better. This is what Maria Gloria Cardarelli has done in Athens.

Many Hispanics living in Athens and surroundings are accustomed to seeing Cardarelli at events, fairs, and programs where she informs and helps participants to file their taxes or apply for a tax identification number known as Tax ID. "The Tax ID is used, not only to file taxes, but also to open bank accounts, buy a home or participate in loan programs," explains Cardarelli who arrived in Florida from his native Venezuela in 1993.

Before coming to the United States, Cardarelli worked in the Production and Sales Department of a decorating company in Valencia, Venezuela, but when she arrived in Athens in 1997, she started working in the tax-filing firm H&R Block. "I realized that there was a great necessity to inform, help and give advise to the Hispanic community, not only on tax issues, but also about becoming home owners," says Cardarelli about her conversations with clients and people in the community. For this reason, Cardarelli decided to take, three years ago, a course at Athens Tech to get a license and become a real estate agent and later a Realtor¨.

Cardarelli has worked during the last few years with St. Joseph Catholic School, Sister Margarita and Oasis Catolico to offer information and help Hispanics to fill tax forms by using her knowledge in this area in order to help others. "Other people charge foreigners working in the United States for filling tax forms," explains Cardarelli about a form known as Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN). "I do it as a community service. I've helped Hispanics a lot." Cardarelli also admits that the issue of taxes is a complicated one and one needs to stay informed about the different tax laws because they have suffered changes in the last few years.

Currently, Cardarelli is working on homes sales at Acadia neighborhood on Vincent Dr. on North Athens. Alejandro and Alicia Martínez are residents at Acadia and they did all their paper work prior to buying a house with Cardarelli. "We have been living in this neighborhood for two years. We were one of the first families to move in," explains Alicia. "We have three children and this is a nice place where to live and for the children to play."
