Las 'Girl Scouts' hispanas crecen en el noreste de Georgia

El club Studio 2b Latino de las Girl Scouts del noreste de Georgia se reunió el viernes, 20 de febrero en el Coile Middle School para cocinar sus platillos favoritos de México, Colombia y Puerto Rico. Los miembros del club tienen acceso a computadoras, máquinas de coser, cocina y duchas mientras se reúnen en el centro para realizar actividades.

Las niñas pertenecen a un nuevo club donde aprenden a relacionarse, crecer, creer en sí mismas y crear un mejor ambiente a su alrededor.

Studio 2b es un club nacional creado hace 91 años y sigue expandiéndose por todo el país. El club busca cambiar vidas y ofrecer oportunidades a niñas hispanas y de todos los orígenes sociales y culturales.

Las niñas interesadas en comenzar un club en su área sólo tienen que llamar a las Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia en Athens y solicitar a alguien que hable español. Una representante visitará a las niñas y sus padres en las escuelas, iglesias o vecindarios para comenzar un grupo de niñas de edades comprendidas entre los 11 y los 17 años.

Las niñas menores de 11 años también pueden participar como Girl Scouts en el programa en un grupo a parte disponible en las escuelas locales.

El costo anual es de 10 dólares por niña más uno o dos dólares por participar en cada reunión. La membresía es gratuita para aquellas niñas que pertenecen a familias de bajos recursos y soliciten ayuda para matricularse.

¿Quiénes son las Girl Scouts? Las Girl Scouts son niñas de varias edades, religiones, orígenes, nacionalidades y de diferentes ambientes socioculturales con talentos diversos de edades entre los cinco y los 17 años, creciendo juntas, compartiendo y mejorando el mundo a su alrededor.

¿Cuál es el propósito de las Girl Scouts? Las Girl Scouts del Noreste de Georgia es un movimiento nacional basado en valores y centrado en la comunidad. La meta de esta organización es la de mejorar la comunidad a través de la enseñanza de valores a cada niña. Todas las actividades en las cuales las niñas participan, incluyendo canciones y viajes, les enseñan a convivir con otras niñas, adultos y con sus comunidades en general.

¿Qué hace de las Girl Scouts un grupo tan especial? La organización nacional de las Girl Scouts, la cual está presente en todas las ciudades de los Estados Unidos, es una de las pocas que sirve exclusivamente a niñas porque es una organizacion de niñas para niñas.

Desde sus comienzos hace 91 años, las Girl Scouts han ayudado a miles de niñas a encontrar su potencial individual como jóvenes dinámicas. Nuestro propósito es lograr:

• Ayudar a cada niña a desarollar y lograr su máximo potencial.

• Enseñarles a relacionarse con otras niñas con facilidad y respeto mutuo.

• Desarrollar valores que ayudarán a tomar desiciones sabias en el futuro.

• Ofrecer la oportunidad de contribuir al mejoramiento de la sociedad a través del uso de sus talentos y habilidades de liderazgo.

¿Qué hacen las niñas en este programa? Se les ofrece una variedad de experiencias y aventuras. La planificación de actividades se basa en cinco áreas de interés: 1.) Bienestar personal. 2.) El mundo del pueblo. 3.) Presente y futuro. 4.) El mundo de las artes. 5.) Naturaleza.

El compromiso de las Girl Scouts de Estados Unidos es "Yo intentaré ante todo de ser honesta, justa, ayudar en donde se me necesite, alegre, amistosa y considerada. Seré hermana de todas las Girl Scouts y respetaré a las autoridades. Utilizaré los recursos con sabiduría y protegeré y mejoraré el mundo a mi alrededor. Demostraré respeto a otros y a mi misma con mis palabras y acciones".

La mayoría de las personas desearían ver estas cualidades en una hermana, hija, esposa, compañera de trabajo o empleada. Este programa ofrece a las niñas una oportunidad única en nuestra sociedad.

Nuestra misión como miembros de las Girl Scouts de Estados Unidos es la de inspirar a las niñas con ideales de caracter, conducta, patriotismo y servicio a la comunidad para ayudarlas a convertirse en ciudadanas felices, llenas de éxitos, logros personales y profesionales.

The Girl Scouts Grow in Northeast Georgia

The club Studio 2b Latino of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia met Friday, Feb. 20 at Coile Middle School to cook their favorite dishes from Mexico, Colombia, and Puerto Rico. The members of the club had access to computers, sewing machines, a kitchen and showers while they met at the center for their activities.

The girls belong to a new club where they learn to get along with others, grow, believe in themselves and create a better environment around them.

Studio 2b is a national club created 91 years ago and it continues to grow throughout the country. The club looks to change lives and offer opportunities to Hispanic girls and girls from all social and cultural origins.

The girls interested in starting a new club in their area only have to call the Girls Scouts of Northeast Georgia in Athens and ask to speak to someone in Spanish. A representative will visit the girls and their parents in schools, churches, or neighborhoods to start a new group of girls ranging in age from 11 to 17.

Girls under the age of 11 can also participate as Girl Scouts through the group's program available in schools.

The annual cost is 10 dollars per girl plus one to two dollars to participate in each meeting. Membership is free for girls who come from families with fewer resources and ask for help when signing up.

Who are the Girl Scouts? The Girl Scouts are girls from various ages, religions, origins, nationalities, and different cultural backgrounds who have diverse talents, are between the ages of five and 17, grow together, and share and improve the world surrounding them.

What is the purpose of Girl Scouts? The Girl Scouts of Northeast Georgia is a national movement based on values and centered around the community. The goal of this organization is to improve the community through teaching values to each girl. All the activities in which the girls participate, including songs and trips, teach them to live together with other girls, adults, and with their communities in general.

What makes the Girl Scouts such a special group? The national Girl Scouts organization, which is present in every U.S. city, is one of the few that helps girls exclusively.

Since its beginning 91 years ago, the Girl Scouts have helped thousands of girls to find their individual potential as dynamic youths. Our purpose is to:

• Help every girl develop and achieve her maximum potential.

• Teach them to get along with other girls with ease and mutual respect.

• Develop values that will help them to make wise decisions in the future.

• Offer the opportunity to contribute to the improvement of society through the use of their leadership talents and abilities.

What do the girls in this program do? They are offered a variety of adventures and experiences. Planned activities are based on five areas of interest: 1.) Personal well-being. 2.) Everyday life. 3.) Present and future. 4.) The world of the arts. 5.) Nature.

The Pledge of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America is "I intend to be honest, fair, and help when I am needed, happy, friendly, and considerate. I will be a sister of all the Girl Scouts and will respect authority. I will use resources wisely and will protect and improve the world around me. I will show respect for myself and others through my words and actions."

The majority of people do look for these qualities of character in a sister, daughter, wife, fellow worker, or employee. This program offers girls a unique opportunity to become better members of our society.

Our mission as members of the Girl Scouts of the United States is to inspire girls with the ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and community service, in order to help them become happy citizens, full of success and strong in personal and professional accomplishments.
