Feria hispana sobre recursos comunitarios en Athens

Rodeada de un gran ambiente y con una gran respuesta de público, se llevó a cabo la 2da. Feria Hispana de Athens el miércoles 22 de Octubre de 6 a 9 de la tarde. La feria contó con la presencia de varias organizaciones sin fines de lucro, negocios y departamentos del gobierno, tanto a nivel local como estatal. El evento, parte de las celebraciones en Athens del mes de la hispanidad, fue organizado por Aida Jones del Departamento de Trabajo del Condado de Athens-Clarke.

Organizaciones sin fines de lucro como el Centro del Noreste de Georgia para Víctimas de Abuso Sexual y departamentos del gobierno como el Programa de Trabajo Para Personas Mayores de Edad, el Departamento de Recursos Humanos de Georgia, el Departamento de Salud del Noreste de Georgia, el Departamento de Desarrollo Humano y Económico del Condado de Athens-Clarke, entre otros, ofrecieron información en español a los visitantes.

También hubo comida gratis para los presentes donada por varios restaurantes de Athens y la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica del Colegio Cedar Shoals al igual que un grupo de música que tocó canciones en vivo a ritmo cubano.

El evento contó con la presencia de la alcaldesa de Athens, Heidi Davison, quien se dirigió al público y agradeció a Jones por organizar un evento tan importante para la comunidad hispana de Athens y ofreció su ayuda y la del gobierno local para organizar futuras ferias y actividades.

A pesar de que es sólo el segundo año que se realiza el evento, se planea realizarlo cada año.

Hispanic Fair for Athens’ Community Resources

Composed of a great atmosphere and an overwhelming response from the public, the 2nd Annual Hispanic Fair in Athens took place on Wednesday, October 22 from 6 to 9 in the evening. The fair had the participation from various non-profit organizations, businesses, and government departments ranging from local to state levels. The event, part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations in Athens, was organized by Aida Jones from the Clarke County Department of Labor.

Non-profit organizations such as The Northeast Georgia Sexual Assault Center and government departments like the Senior Citizens Employment Services Center, the Georgia Department of Human Resources, the Northeast Georgia Health Department, the Athens-Clarke County Department of Human and Economic Development, among others, offered information in Spanish to the visitors.

There was also free food donated by various local restaurants and the Cedar Shoals High School Spanish Honor Society as well as a live band that played Cuban music.

Athens Mayor Heidi Davison made an appearance at the event, addressed those in attendance and thanked Jones for organizing such an important event for the Athens Hispanic community and offered her help and that of the local government to organize future fairs and activities. Despite this being only the second year of this event, there are plans to continue it every year.
