Abogado bilingüe de bienes raíces en Athens

"Cuando estoy cerrando un acuerdo con un comprador o vendedor hispano, intento explicar cada uno de los documentos que están firmando. Me imagino a mi mismo en un país extranjero, con la dificultad del idioma y en medio de una transacción de bienes raíces y me doy cuenta que puede ser una situcuación estresante", dice el abogado Russell T. Quaterman.

Nacido en Avondale Estates, Georgia, Rusty, como todos lo llaman, comenzó sus estudios en Emory University, se graduó de la Universidad de Georgia en 1971 y de la escuela de leyes de UGA en 1974. Aunque creció en una familia tradicional americana, Quaterman tiene raíces hispanas. Aunque el apellido de su mamá es Gonzalez (España), ni él ni su mamá fueron expuestos a la forma de vida hispana, pero Quaterman siempre estuvo interesado en esa cultura.

Con una gran reputación y mucha experiencia en el negocio de bienes raíces, Quaterman ha servido a Athens y sus alrededores por casi 30 años. Quaterman también ha dedicado los últimos cuatro años a aprender español y sobre las diferentes culturas de la rica herencia hispana. "Encuentro fascinante la diversidad de culturas que se mezclan en el mismo idioma", afirma. "Me encanta descubrir las diferentes costumbres y tradiciones", añade. Para Quaterman cada nacionalidad tiene su propia identidad. Gracias al contacto, profesional y personal, con clientes, amigos y profesores de español de diferentes países, Quaterman ha descubierto que a pesar de hablar un mismo idioma, cada país es diferente y único. "Me he dado cuenta que el público en general tiende a tratar a los hispano hablantes como un sólo grupo con una sóla identidad pero me he dado cuenta que mis clientes tienen diferentes costumbres, tradiciones, necesidades e intento reconocerlas y entenderlas".

Quaterman ha aprendido sobre la diversidad de la cultura hispana no sólo de sus profesores de español pero también a trevés de experiencias personales gracias a sus visitas a países como México, Guatemala y Puerto Rico. "En mis viajes, disfruto mucho aprendiendo acerca de su historia, arte, literatura y comida; es una gran oportunidad para mi de mejorar y aprender español con personas maravillosas", dice Quaterman.

El compromiso de Quaterman es representar a sus clientes de una manera ética, con fervor y siempre cumpliendo con la ley; sus prácticas incluyen: bienes raíces, leyes de negocios y empresas y administración de propiedad.

"Los compradores hispanos están muy interesados en los procedimientos de cierre de contratos y quiero ser capaz de responder a cualquier pregunta y clarificar cualquier duda que puedan tener cuando cierran una transacción de bienes raíces. Es por esta razón que ofrezco a la comunidad hispana el mejor servicio el cual se merecen", dice.

Bilingual Real Estate Attorney in Athens

"When I am in a closing with Hispanic buyers or sellers, I try to explain each of the documents that they are signing. I picture myself away from my native country, with a language barrier and in the middle of a real estate transaction; that can be a very stressful situation," says attorney Russell T. Quarterman.

Originally from Avondale Estates, GA, Quarterman, as everyone calls him, attended Emory University and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1971 and the UGA law school in 1974. Even though he was raised in a traditional American family, Quarterman has Hispanic roots. Although his mother’s maiden name is Gonzalez (of Spanish origin) neither he nor his mother were exposed to the Hispanic way of life; yet Quarterman was always attracted to this culture.

With an outstanding reputation and extensive experience in the real estate business, Quaterman has been serving Athens and the surrounding area for almost 30 years. Quarterman has also dedicated the last four years to learning Spanish about the different cultures of our rich Hispanic heritage. "I find the diversity of cultures that blend into the same language to be fascinating," he states. "I enjoy discovering their different customs and traditions," he adds. For Quarterman each nationality has its own identity. Through his contact, professionally and personally, with clients, friends, and Spanish teachers from different Spanish speaking countries, Quarterman has discovered that a common language often hides the fact that each country is separate and distinct. "It has been my experience that the general public tends to treat native Spanish speakers as one group with one identity. To the contrary, each country has its unique customs, traditions and individual identity. Likewise, my clients have different customs, traditions and needs, and I try to recognize and understand that fact."

Quarterman has learned about the diverse Hispanic culture not only from his Spanish teachers, to whom he is very grateful for the extraordinary effort and interest they have put towards helping him to learn Spanish, but also from personal experiences thanks to his visits to different countries like Mexico, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico. "On my trips, I genuinely enjoy learning about their history, art, literature and food; it is a great opportunity for me to enhance and practice my Spanish with these wonderful people."
