Gainesville "Rangers" Tricampeón de la liga de béisbol en Gainesville Por Carolina Rojas Los equipos Cardenales y Rangers protagonizaron la final de la temporada 2003 de la Liga Hispana de Béisbol de Gainesville el domingo 19 de octubre en las instalaciones del Alberta Park. Mientras el equipo Rangers contaba con el equipo titular y suplente, en desventaja se encontraba el equipo Cardenales, que completó su cuadro con algunos suplentes y asumió su compromiso en este encuentro que se convertiría en el final ya que Rangers habia ganado los dos últimos partidos. Los Rangers conectaron siete jonrones en esta jornada. En la novena y última entrada, el bateador de los Rangers, Bryan Golttai, conectó un jonrón con las bases llenas. Así terminaría en 25 carreras contra tres de Cardenales. Por su parte, José Luis Callejas, fue el único bateador que conectó un jonrón para el equipo Cardenales en la octava entrada con lo que conquistó la tercera y útima carrera."Todo ya estaba decidido y nadie traía ganas. Siempre ha sucedido lo mismo, la gente ya no viene y no podemos completar el equipo y tenemos que hacerlo con los que están, con suplentes pero no con los activos", subrayó Callejas. Rangers, experiencia y calidad Nabor Araujo, entrenador del equipo Rangers, sostuvo que su equipo había adquirido fuerza y experiencia y que ya estaban preparados para competir en otro lugar y que iban a empezar compitiendo en un cuadrangular fuera de la ciudad. Asimismo, sostuvo que, frente a los rumores de que los Rangers ya no continuarían en esta liga, "eso no está definido todavía. Este tricampeonato nos ha traído mucha satisfacción y nos sentimos contentos aunque el oponente no estuvo como en otras ocasiones y no hubo pelea". Premiación Con la declinación del equipo Cardenales de continuar, Jesús Godina, Presidente de la Liga Hispana de Béisbol de Gainesville, procedió a la ceremonia de entrega de trofeos. "Yo quiero agradecer la participación de todos los equipos y felicitarlos y pedirles disculpas por los inconvenientes que haya habido en el desarrollo del torneo y agradecer su comprensión y su voto de confianza y asegurarles que mientras ustedes lo quieran yo continuaré al frente", dijo Godina en su alocución de clausura. Los equipos que pasaron a las eliminatorias y que contribuyeron con este evento también fueron reconocidos con un pequeño trofeo de consolación como son: Los Diablos Rojos, Guanajuato, Pericos y Aguilas. Godina dijo que el hecho de que Rangers haya sido el campeón no le resta méritos al equipo Cardenales que obtuvo el segundo lugar y que ambos tienen reconocidos méritos por haber llegado hasta la final. Uno de los premios más distinguidos fue entregado a Alvaro Araujo, del equipo Rangers, como máximo jonronero.		Gainesville "Rangers" Three-time Champions of the Gainesville Baseball League By Carolina Rojas The Cardenales and Rangers faced off at the final match of the 2003 Gainesville Hispanic Baseball League tournament on Sunday, October 19 at the Alberta Park fields. While the Rangers had its star players and reserve players, the Cardenales were at a disadvantage, completing their team with some reserve players and going into the game knowing that the Rangers would win the tournament because of their victory in the first two games of the series. The Rangers hit seven home runs in the final. In the ninth and final inning, the batter for the Rangers, Bryan Golttai, hit a home run with the bases loaded. This ended the 25 runs scored by the Rangers against the three scored by the Cardenales. On his part, José Luis Callejas was the only player to hit a home run for the Cardenales in the eighth inning, scoring the third and last run for his team. "Everything was already decided and nobody cared. It always happens this way, people don’t come and we can’t have a complete team. We end up having to work with what we have, with reserves but not with active players," said Callejas. Rangers, Experience and Quality Nabor Araujo, the trainer for the Rangers, said that his team already had the strength and experience, was already prepared to compete in another level, and was going to compete in a tournament outside of the city. At the same time, when asked about rumors of the Cardenales leaving that league, he said, "This has not yet been decided. This three-time championship has given us a lot of satisfaction and we feel happy despite the opponent not being at their best level and there not being much of a fight." Award Ceremony With the Cardenales’ refusal to continue, Jesús Godina, president of the Gainesville Hispanic Baseball League, handed out trophies. "I want to thank all the teams for their participation, congratulate them and apologize for the inconveniences that have occurred throughout this tournament. I appreciate your understanding and your vote of confidence and I want to assure you all that I will be your president for as long as you want," said Godina to those in attendance at the closing ceremony. The teams that moved on to the play-offs and contributed to this event were also recognized with a small consolation trophy. Among them were the Red Devils, Guanajuato, Pericos and the Eagles. Godina said that the fact that the Rangers had been the champions didn’t take away the merit from the Cardenales for reaching the final and that both teams had plenty to celebrate for reaching the final. One of the most honorable awards was given to Alvaro Araujo from the Rangers for hitting the most home runs.
