Communidad familiar Mamás de Athens se reúnen Por Kimberly Frey La Leche League (LLL) es un grupo de apoyo para mamás y fue fundado hace 40 años por un grupo de mamás quienes querían ayudar a otras mamás a disfrutar de la satisfacción de amamantar a sus bebés. Actualmente, La Leche League Internacional trabaja en todo el mundo y es reconocida por la Organización Mundial de la Salud como la autoridad mundial en materia de alimentación de bebés. La misión de La Leche League es la de ayudar a mamás en todo el mundo a amamantar a sus hijos, proveer información, educación, apoyo a familias y ayudar a promover el amamantar como una parte importante para el desarrollo saludable del bebé y la mamá. Unido al cuidado de un doctor y otros profesionales de la salud, La Leche League entiende la importancia de una mamá ayudando a otra a entender las necesidades de su bebé y a aprender sobre las mejores maneras de cubrir esas necesidades. La Leche League ha estado trabajando en Athens por más de 30 años. Actualmente, La Leche League de Athens tiene siete líderes dispuestos a cubrir las necesidades de las mamás en Athens y condados vecinos. Los líderes de la La Leche League son mamás experimentadas quienes han amamantado a sus hijos y están preparadas para responder preguntas e inquietudes de otras mamás. La Leche League de Athens se reune mensualmente para tratar las necesidades de las nuevas mamás. En estas reuniones se habla sobre temas como las ventajas de amamantar, la familia y el bebé amamantado, el arte de amamantar, evitar/superar dificultades, nutrición y fin del proceso de amamantar. Los líderes organizan las reuniones, dirigen la conversación mientras las mamás experimentadas y las nuevas comparten lo que les ha ayudado a amamantar con éxito. Las mamás recién llegadas a La Leche League se sorprenden al saber que otras mamás han tenido los mismos retos e inquietudes. La tranquilidad que ofrecen las mamás que tienen experiencia y que comparten el arte de amamantar ayuda a las nuevas mamás a obtener confianza en si mismas. El compartir experiencias y conocimientos entre las mamás es el pilar fundamental de La Leche League. Muchas mamás siguen viniendo a las reuniones para apoyar y animar a pesar de que sus bebés han crecido. Actualmente, La Leche League de Athens se reúne el tercer martes por la noche y el tercer jueves por la mañana de cada mes. Una reunión dedicada a cubrir las necesidades de los niños se realiza el primer jueves por la mañana de cada mes. Los líderes pueden ser contactados entre reuniones. Today, La Leche League International is active all over the world, and is recognized by the World Health Organization as the world's foremost authority on breastfeeding. The mission of La Leche League is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed; to provide information, education, and support for breastfeeding families; and to help promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important part of the healthy development of baby and mother. While giving credit to the physician and other health care professionals, La Leche League recognizes the unique importance of mothers helping one another to perceive the needs of her child and to learn the best means of fulfilling those needs. The Athens La Leche League has been active for over 30 years. Today, La Leche League of Greater Athens has seven accredited leaders available to meet the needs of mothers in Athens and surrounding counties. La Leche League leaders are experienced mothers who have breastfed their own children and who have been trained to answer mothers' questions and concerns. La Leche League of Athens offers a continuing series of monthly meetings, which address the needs of new families. These meetings cover the advantages of breastfeeding, the family and the breastfed baby, the art of breastfeeding, avoiding/overcoming difficulties, and nutrition and weaning. Leaders facilitate each meeting, guiding the discussion, while both new and experienced mothers share what has helped them succeed at breastfeeding. Mothers new to La Leche League meetings are often surprised that other mothers have had the same challenges or have similar concerns. The reassurance from others who speak with the wisdom of personal experience and the valuable network of mothers who share a commitment to breastfeeding help new mothers gain self-confidence. This mother-to-mother sharing is the heart of La Leche League. Many mothers continue to come to meetings for support and encouragement as their newborns grow into toddlers. Currently, La Leche League of Athens meets on every third Tuesday night and third Thursday morning of each month. A meeting geared specifically to the needs of toddlers is offered on the first Thursday morning of each month. Leaders can also be contacted between meeting times by either phone or email.
