Fería de la Maternidad y del Bébe - ¡con acento español!

La 7ma. Feria de la Maternidad y el Bebé se llevó a cabo el sábado, 16 de agosto en el Classic Center en el centro de Athens. Mamás, papás y jóvenes tuvieron la oportunidad de disfrutar de un día lleno de música, comida, espectáculos, expositores, clases y muchas información.

Servicios y negocios del Condado de Clarke y alrededores pudieron informar a los visitantes sobre servicios a infantes, mujeres embara-zadas y familias en general. Este año, los expositores hicieron un esfuerzo para cubrir las necesidades de los visitantes hispanos con información disponible en es-pañol y personal bilingüe para responder preguntas.

El Classic Center tuvo intérpretes disponibles para aquellas personas que quisieran asistir a clases. La Hermana Margarita del Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela estuvo presente en la feria.

"Las mamás disfrutaron mucho al venir aquí. Se divirtieron. Pasamos por todas las mesas y recogimos información en español para llevar al vecindario", dijo la Hermana Margarita quien acompañó y ayudó a 10 mamás y sus hijos del Vecindario Pinewood Estates. "Es bueno que los hispanos vengan a estos eventos. Es importante estar presentes y dejar saber a la gente que también estamos aquí".

El evento fue gratis y los expositores regalaban cosas a los visitantes.

Maternity and Baby Fair…With a Spanish Accent!

The 7th Annual Maternity and Baby Fair took place on Saturday, August 16, at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. Moms, dads and children had a chance to enjoy a day full of music, food, shows, exhibitors, classes and, most importantly, information.

Clarke County and surrounding area services and businesses were able to inform visitors on what they offer to infants, expecting mothers and families in general. This year, exhibitors made an effort to meet the information needs of Hispanic visitors by offering flyers, pamphlets and Spanish-speaking staff to educate and answer questions they might have.

The Classic Center also had interpreters available for those wanting to attend classes. Sister Margarita of Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela was present at the fair.

"Moms really enjoyed coming here. They had fun. We went around to all the tables and picked up information in Spanish to take back to the neighborhood," said Sister Margarita, who accompanied and helped 10 moms and their children from the Pinewood Estates neighborhood. "It is good that Hispanics are starting to come to these events. It is important to be present and let people know that we are here too."

The event was freely open to the public and participants in the exhibition distributed free promotional items.
