Un día en estadio de béisbol

El mes pasado tuve la oportunidad de ir a ver jugar a los Bravos de Atlanta por primera vez desde que llegué a los Estados Unidos hace 8 años. Los que me conocen, ya saben lo aficionado que soy a los deportes. Me encantan los deportes, es por eso que decidí ser periodista. Quiero llegar a ser un comentarista deportivo. Mi pasión por los deportes comenzó cuando tenía 5 años y mis padres me inscribieron en clases de natación y a los 8 años a clases de tenis. Mis padres sólo querían que hiciera deporte pero se convirtió en una pasión para mí.

Me divertí mucho en el partido de los Bravos. Fue una tarde de domingo soleado en el hermoso estadio Turner Field. 35.000 seguidores fueron a ver el juego y a disfrutar del clima, su equipo y a pasárselo bien con amigos y familiares. Los Bravos, que ocupan el primer lugar, jugaron contra los Orioles de Baltimore. El resultado final fue de 9 carreras a 3 a favor de los Orioles pero el resultado no fue lo importante. Lo importante fue ver a todos esas personas divirtiéndose y pasándoselo bien en el estadio.

Varios jugadores de los Bravos son hispanos. Vienen de México, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana y Venezuela. Los aficionados deportivos hispanos son famosos por su pasión por el ‘soccer’ o fútbol como se le conoce en todos los países al sur de la frontera, pero el béisbol también es importante en varios países latinoamericanos como Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico y la República Dominicana entre otros.

Los hispanos que viven en Athens y otras ciudades alrededor pueden pasar una bonita y soleada tarde de domingo en Turner Field con amigos, esposos, esposas, abuelas, abuelos y niños. Y la mejor parte es el precio de la entrada. Un seguidor puede comprar una entrada desde $1 hasta $45. El estacionamiento cuesta $10.

Nunca olvidaré la sensación que tuve cuando caminé hacia las tribunas y ví la hierba verde y bien cortada, los jugadores calentando en el campo y también el resto del estadio. Imagínese lo que un niño sentirá cuando camine a esas mismas tribunas con su papá o su mamá. Ese niño seguro tendrá un bonito recuerdo cuando sea mayor. Recomiendo ir al estadio de béisbol con las personas queridas y disfrutar de una tarde diferente comiendo un perro caliente, bebiendo algo frío y mirando un buen partido de béisbol. No te arrepentirás. Yo no me arrepiento. ¡Diviértete y a jugar pelota!

A Day at the Ballpark

Last month I had the chance to go to watch a Braves’ game for the first time since I came to the United States 8 years ago. Those of you who know me, already know what a sports fan I am. I love sports, that’s why I decided to be a journalist. I want to become a sports caster. My passion for sports started when I was 5 years old and my parents signed me up for swimming lessons and at age 8, tennis lessons. My parents just wanted me to be active, but sports became a passion for me.

At the Braves’ game I had a lot of fun. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon at beautiful Turner Field. 35,000 thousand fans came to watch the game and enjoy the weather, their team and some quality time with friends and family alike. The first place Braves were battling the Baltimore Orioles. The final score was 9 to 3 in favor of the Orioles, but the score was not really important. What was important was seeing all those fans having a good time at the ballpark.

Several Hispanics players are members of the Atlanta Braves. They come from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. Hispanics sport fans are well known for their passion for soccer, or ‘fútbol’ as it is called south of the border, but baseball is also important in several Latin American countries being the national sport at Cuba, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic to mention a few.

Hispanic living in Athens and surrounding cities can spend a nice, sunny Sunday afternoon at Turner Field with friends, husbands, wives, grandmas, grandpas, and children. And the best part is the price for a ticket. A fan can get tickets from $1 to $45. Parking is $10.

I’ll never forget the sensation I had when I walked to the stands and I saw the green, nicely cut grass, players warming up on the field as well as the rest of the stadium. Imagine what a kid will feel when walking to those same stands for the first time. It is a moment he/she will never forget and will remember having been there with his/her father and/or mother. A nice mental picture to have while growing up. I recommend going to the ballpark with love ones and enjoy a different kind of afternoon while eating a hot dog, drinking an ice-cold beverage and watching a nice game of baseball. You won’t regret it. I didn’t. Have fun and play ball!
