FÚTBOL: REÑIDA FINAL DEL TORNEO LIGA SOCCER

La VII Liga de Fútbol de Athens, Liga Soccer Athens Eco Latino, llegó a su final el domingo 15 de junio en la instalaciones deportivas Holland Park con el partido entre los equipos U.E.F.A. y Real Centromérica.

En una tarde soleada y con mucho calor, U.E.F.A., de uniforme azul y con jugadores de Europa, Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica, se impuso por tres goles a dos a un aguerrido Real Centroamérica que se vistió de blanco y nunca se dió por vencido, aún jugando con un hombre menos la mayor parte del segundo tiempo.

U.E.F.A. se adelantó en el marcador temprano en la primera parte, con en el primer disparo entre los tres palos, por intermedio de Chris Forde que pateó duro desde fuera del área y el balón entró por la parte alta de la portería. Por el resto de la primera parte, los equipos dispusieron de varias oportunidades de marcar pero no supieron aprovecharlas.

Pocos minutos después de comenzada la segunda parte, el arbitró mostró la segunda tarjeta amarilla al número 10 y defensa de Real Centroamérica, equipo conformado con sólo jugadores hispanos. Sorpresivamente, el Real Centroamérica comenzó a atacar más y se puso por delante en el marcador con dos goles casi seguidos.

El primero obra de Toño Hernández después de un saque de esquina donde el mexicano remató de cabeza, viniendo de atrás, en el centro del área. Poco después, el turno fue para José Jiménez, aprovechando un fallo del portero y la defensa que no pudieron despejar un saque de portería y después de regatear al portero, el guatemalteco marcó, con poco ángulo, desde la izquierda del área.

Poco antes, el Real Centro-américa había tenido otra oportunidad de marcar cuando un balón pateado desde fuera del área se estrelló en el larguero.

Después de adelantarse en el marcador y debido al gran esfuerzo de jugar con 10 hombres, el Real Centroamérica bajó la guardia en defensa y el equipo U.E.F.A. comenzó a llegar más al área rival, sobre todo por la banda izquierda, y se vió recompensado con dos goles de pierna zurda del yugosalvo Damier Nikolic.

U.E.F.A. pudo haber ampliado su ventaja pero el portero del Real Centroamérica paró un tiro penal en tiempo de descuento.

El equipo Guerrero se llevó el tercer lugar al vencer al Internacional. José Romero de Athens Eco Latino hizo entrega de los premios a los equipos.

SOCCER: CLOSE GAME AT THE LIGA SOCCER TOURNAMENT

The VII Athens Soccer League, Liga Soccer Athens Eco Latino, came to an end on Sunday, June 15, at the Holland Park soccer field with the game between U.E.F.A. and Real Centroamérica.

On a sunny and hot afternoon, U.E.F.A., in blue uniforms and with players from Europe, United States and Latin America, won with a score of three goals to two against a hardened Real Centro-américa that wore all white uniforms and never gave up, even playing with one man short for most of the second half.

U.E.F.A scored early in the first half, in their first shot to goal, through Chris Forde who kicked the ball from outside the penalty box and got the ball high into the goal. For the rest of the first half, the two teams had several goal opportunities but they couldn’t bring them off.

A few minutes after the beginning of the second half, the referee showed a second yellow card to number 10 and defense man for Real Centroamérica, the team made of only Hispanic players. Surprisingly, Real Centroamérica started to press forward more often and scored twice with two almost consecutive goals.

Toño Hernández, who is Mexican, scored the first goal after a corner kick when, coming from behind, he headed to the end of the net from the center of the penalty box. A few minutes later, it was José Jiménez’s turn to score; taking advantage of goalkeeper’s mistake, the Guate-malan born scored from an acute angle just at the left side of the penalty box.

Only a few moments earlier, Real Centroamérica had another great opportunity to score when the ball, kicked from outside the box, hit the goal pole.

After getting ahead on the board and due to the great physical effort of having to play with 10 men, Real Centroamérica started playing soft on defense and U.E.F.A. started to reach the opposite goal more often, especially from the left side, where the Yugoslavian Damier Nikolic used his left leg to score twice.

U.E.F.A. could have extended the final score, but Real Centro-américa’s goalkeeper blocked a penalty kick in stoppage time.

The game for the third place was won by Guerrero, which beat Internacional. José Romero of Athens Eco Latino presented trophies to the winners.
