Los tres Reyes Magos visitan Athens

La celebración del día de los Reyes Magos, también conocida como la Epifanía, el 6 de enero de cada año es una tradición muy arraigada en la cultura hispana. Esta tradición ha sido traida a Athens por los inmigrantes hispanos y se ha venido celebrando durante los últimos años con la preparación de un acto en la Iglesia Católica San José en la Avenida Prince y el posterior repartimiento de regalos entre los niños presentes. Este año el acto se llevó a cabo el sábado 3 de enero y contó con la colaboración del Navy Supply Corp School y Toys for Tots quienes donaron cientos de regalos.

Entre las actividades que se realizaron, hubo un pesebre viviente con niños hispanos y también se presentaron los tres Reyes Magos quienes repartieron los juguetes a los cerca de 500 niños que presenciaron los actos.

Al día siguiente, de 11 de la mañana a 3 de la tarde, se llevaron los juguetes que sobraron el día anterior y se donaron a los niños de varios vecindarios predominantemente hispanos. Uno de estos vecindarios fue Pinewood Estates donde se encuentra el Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela. Conchita Younkin, organizadora de los actos, y la Hermana Margarita, directora del Oasis Católico, unieron fuerzas para traer alegría a los cientos de niños que viven en Pinewood Estates. También visitaron los vecindarios en Sunset Drive y Vincent Drive en Athens.

The Three Kings Visit Athens

The celebration of the Three Kings' Day, also known as Epiphany, on January 6 every year is a tradition deeply rooted in the Hispanic culture. This tradition has been brought to Athens by the Hispanic immigrants and has come to be celebrated during the last few years through the presentation of a play at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Prince Avenue and the giving-out of gifts for the children present following the play. This year the play took place Saturday, January 3 and had the help of the Navy Supply Corp School and Toys for Tots, which donated hundreds of gifts.

Among the activities that took place, there was a nativity scene with Hispanic children and the Three Kings were also there, handing out toys to the nearly 500 children who attended the play.

The next day, between 11 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, the leftover toys from the day before were taken and donated to children who live in predominately Hispanic neighborhoods. One of these neighborhoods was Pinewood Estates where the Catholic Oasis Santa Rafaela is located. Conchita Younkin, organizer of the events, and Sister Margarita, director of the Oasis, came together to bring joy to the hundreds of children who live in Pinewood Estates. They also visited the Sunset Drive and Vincent Drive neighborhoods in Athens.
