Gainesville Niños juegan en torneo de fútbol sala del Boys & Girls ClubTexto y fotos por Carolina Rojas Las instalaciones del Boys & Girls Club estuvieron muy concurridas el sábado 13 de diciembre al inaugurarse la primera temporada de Fútbol Sala para los niños que conforman las categorías de edades comprendidas entre 6-9 y 10-12. Los equipos que conforman la primera categoría son: Toluca, La Roca, Barca Kids, Cruz Azul, Sharks y América. La otra categoría la conforman seis equipos: Red Elephants, Real Madrid, Pumas, Palmeiras, Morelia y México. Cabe resaltar que los equipos México y Morelia cuentan con niñas en sus equipos.  Organización del Primer Evento de Fútbol Sala. Charmaine González, coordinadora del evento, detalló ésta y otras actividades que llevará a cabo el Boys & Girls Club, institución a la cual pertenece. "Este programa se inició para atraer más niños hispanos y hacer algo que les gusta durante estos meses de invierno que no se puede jugar afuera. Esto es algo que les llama mucho la atención porque nunca antes se había realizado en Gainesville", explicó González. Proyectos para niños "Estamos pensando en hacer fútbol para niños en la temporada del spring y contar con muchos más niños, con unos 300 o 400. Además, queremos estimular las habilidades de los niños como el arte o el teatro. Ahora tenemos un programa después de la escuela para todos los grados hasta la escuela secundaria y donde podemos ayudar a los niños con sus tareas o en aquello donde ellos no alcanzan a desarrollar bien sus habilidades para escribir o leer. También se les ayuda a conocer las matemáticas para que desarrollen mejor su aprendizaje. Los miembros de este programa al inscribirse y pagar su inscripción pueden hacer uso de las instalaciones y de todo aquello que se enseña durante el año. Las actividades de deporte sí generan gastos pero cuentan con uniforme, árbitros, etc", precisó González. El Kayak, una motivación para los niños En la estación de verano, los niños pueden ir al lago con instructores y aprender a nadar, aquellos que no saben pueden aprender a remar o manejar un bote. Todas estas actividades están orientadas a satisfacer el interés del niño en forma general. "Yo siempre tuve interés en trabajar para los niños. Mi primera oportunidad fue la de trabajar en la iglesia y ahora aquí, trato de construir actividades nuevas y promover esta institución de la cual formo parte y que está dedicada al desarrollo integral de los niños y jóvenes para convertirlos en líderes de su destino", dijo González, de origen cubano-mexicano, nacida en Louisiana. |
Gainesville Children Playing in the Boys & Girls Club Soccer TournamentText and Photos by Carolina Rojas The Boys & Girls Club facilities of Gainesville were very busy Sat., Dec. 13 with the beginning of the first indoor soccer season for children between the ages of six to nine and 10 to 12. 
The teams in the first category were Toluca, La Roca, Barca Kids, Cruz Azul, Sharks, and America. The other category was composed of six teams: Red Elephants, Real Madrid, Pumas, Palmeiras, Morelia, and Mexico. The Morelia and Mexico teams both included girls. Organizing the First Indoor Soccer Season Charmaine Gonzalez, the coordinator of the event, talked in detail this and other activities that will be held at the Boys & Girls Club, the organization for which she works. "This program was initiated to attract more Hispanic kids and to provide them with something they enjoy during the winter months when they can't play outside. The program has received a lot of attention because it's the first of its kind in Gainesville," explained Gonzalez. Children's Projects "We're planning on having a children's soccer season in the spring, and we're expecting many more kids, between 300 and 400. We also want to stimulate kids' artistic and theatrical talents. We currently have an after-school program for all kids, all the way up to high school, in which we help them with their homework and help them to improve their reading and writing skills. We also tutor them in mathematics. After signing-up and paying their fee, members of this program have access to the facilities and its resources. The sports activities cost more, but the expense covers the uniforms, referees, etc," said Gonzalez. Kayaking: A Motivation for Kids During summer, children have the opportunity to go to a nearby lake and learn to swim and to row a boat. All of these activities are aimed at satisfying the interests of the children. "I was always interested in working with kids. I had my first opportunity through my church and now here. I always try to come up with new activities and to promote this club of which I'm a part. The club is dedicated to children's all-round development and making them into leaders in control of their destiny," said Gonzalez, a Mexican-Cuban American born Louisiana. |
