Queremos que Athens Eco Latino sirva de herramienta para ayudar a la comunidad hispana a seguir creciendo y al mismo tiempo tener un lugar donde anunciar sus quejas o simplemente felicitar la labor de otras personas que trabajan para mejorar la calidad de vida de los hispanos. Los residentes de Athens no pueden depender o esperar a que las publicaciones en español de Atlanta y Gainesville cumplan con esta importante tarea. Los artículos son escritos por personas que viven en esta área y entienden las necesidades a que se enfrentan los hispanos cada día. En los últimos cuatro meses el equipo de Athens Eco Latino ha trabajo para hacer de esta publicación una realidad. Lo hemos hecho lo mejor posible, pero será con su opinión, crítica constructiva, ideas y comentarios a través de la sección cartas al editor que conseguiremos cubrir sus necesidades y la de todos los lectores. En esta página de carta del editor hablaré y daré mi opinión en temas de actualidad que de alguna manera influyen en la vida de las personas de Athens y sus alrededores. Cada día más y más individuos, negocios y organizaciones, incluido el gobierno federal, estatal y local, están creando planes y proyectos los cuales buscan la participación de hispanos o de trabajadores americanos para que aprendan español y la cultura hispana. En Athens hay bibliotecas, departamento de policía, transporte público, programas de reciclaje, bienes raíces, hospitales, colegios, oficina de abogados y muchos más que ofrecen información o personal capaz de comunicarse en español. Todos estos servicios están siendo creados en respuesta al crecimiento de la población hispana, no sólo por su importante papel en la economía local y nacional, sino también por su cada vez más importante presencia en la sociedad. Editor's LetterThe city of Athens, its county and other five neighboring counties finally have a publication to serve the needs of the growing Hispanic community. The goal of Athens Eco Latino is to inform, educate and serve the Hispanic community as well as people who speak English and take interest in our rich culture and Spanish language. Athens needs and deserves a forum for Hispanics and other residents to find local information on such important topics as health, immigration, education, work, organizations and businesses plus other entertainment topics such as culture, music, profiles and sports. We want Athens Eco Latino to serve as a tool to help the Hispanic community to keep growing and at the same time as a place where they can announce their complaints or simply congratulate others who work to improve the quality of life in the Hispanic community. Athens residents can’t expect or hope for Spanish publications based in Atlanta and Gainesville to take care of these important tasks. Articles are written by people who live in this area and understand the needs local Hispanics face in their everyday lives. In the last four months, the Athens Eco Latino team has worked to make this publication a reality. We have done the best possible job we could, but it only will be with your opinions, constructive criticisms, ideas and comments voiced through letters to the editor that we will be able to improve and cover all your needs and the needs of other readers. On this letter from the editor page, I’ll talk and give my opinion on current events influencing the lives of the residents of Athens and the surrounding counties. Every day more and more individuals, businesses and organizations, including the federal, state and local governments are creating plans and projects that research the participation of Hispanic as well as American workers in learning survival Spanish and about Hispanic culture. In Athens we have libraries, police departments, public transportation, recycling programs, Realtors, hospitals, schools, lawyers and many more resources with information and people available to communicate in Spanish. All these services have been created to respond to the Hispanic population growth, not just because of its important buying power nationally and locally, but also due to its important presence in everyday society. La ciudad de Athens, su condado y otros cinco condados vecinos finalmente tienen una publicación para atender las necesidades de la creciente comunidad hispana. Athens Eco Latino tiene como meta informar, educar y servir a la comunidad hispana y a las personas de habla inglesa interesadas en nuestra rica cultura y en la lengua española. Athens necesita y se merece tener un medio por el cual los hispanos y otros residentes pueden encontrar información local en temas tan importantes como salud, inmigración, educación, trabajo, organizaciones y negocios además de otros temas de entretenimiento como cultura, música, personajes y deportes.
